Daniel Sunderland Obituary

D. Sunderland- Thank you so much for your friendship and for being my support during the "less entertaining" ROTC events! I am so sorry that I was at training and could not attend your services but I will always remember your wonderful personality and all the great times we had together. I miss you so much already. May the Lord be with your family and comfort them to know that you will one day be together again. I will see you on the other side buddy.

#3 You will always be remembered as that impressive saftey who loved to compete and make people better. Your personality made everyone around you smile. You will be missed. Your parents did a great job in raising such fine young men and their love for all their children is aparent in the way you treated others. I will miss your game performance summaries and critisisms. You were my best friend and battle buddy for three years and I will miss you so much. You were the reason I was able to get as far as I have in the Army, you are the reason I'm going to commission. I am so sorry I couldn't be there this summer because of training, I'm so sorry I couldn't be there to say goodbye because I'm in Korea. I love you so much and will never ever forget you.

We all share in the grief that you are going thru. As parents we know how much you loved Dan and tell you with all our hearts that we are with you as you go thru this.

You were such an inspirational person and such a great role model to so many. I have so many wonderful memories with you from High school. We all know you are in a better place but you will be greatly missed.

Dan was one who always greeted me with a smile and a pat on the back. He always seemed to make my day better with just a short chat or quick comment. He is the kind of boy and man I want my sons to be like. Mr. and Mrs. Sunderland, you have all the love in my heart.

Dan you will be greatly missed. I thouroughly enjoyed our long conversations about solving world problems. Who will keep me awake on the graveyard shift at work? By the way, why didn't you ever tell us about playing piano and being an SBO officer???? I will always remember your crooked grin and humor you displayed at work. May peace be with your family and friends.

Dear Dan, You have been such a bright light in our life. You touched so many with your love and friendship. Kindness was so easy for you to everyone you were around. We will miss you so much, life will not be the same.

You are one of the most amazing, thoughtful people that I have ever met in my life!! We spent hundreds to thousands of hours talking about anything and everything but, the six hour conversation that we had,just days before you passed, was by far the greatest one we have ever had! I thought that, before I heard the news. I thank God each and everyday that we were brought back to one another AGAIN!! And the many wonderful times that we shared, over the past 5-6 months, or so, they were special times and I am so blessed, that you have been a huge part of my life! You were my strength, you knew that and remember "Cheer up Buttercup!" My family and I are going to miss you so much, especially the many Sunday dinners that you spent with us! Thank you for listening to me and understanding me and for loving me so much!!

Thank you Dan. I have never met a more inspirational and charismatic person. I love you, thanks for making high school one of the best times of my life. My family and I miss you so much.

I always appreciated Dan's sense of humor and his friendship with an old lady like me. I kidded him about not being "High and tight" with his appearance when his back was out, and he didn't have to go to the military job. He didn't mind the kidding and was always friendly and smiling. His parents raised him right.

Sunderland was an excellent role model for all of the members of the Ute Warrior Battalion and his loss is a blow that the ROTC program will face great difficulty in overcoming. We can only thank god almighty for the time we were blessed with his presence and the influnce he made on all of us.

I was extremely impressed by Daniel Sunderland during his time in Army ROTC. Sunderland, we will miss you.

Dan, things won't be the same without you. Thanks for all the good times. You will be greatly missed by all of us!
