The world lost an incredible mother on March 22nd, 2021 as Cynthia Gill aged 80 years, passed away peacefully in the company of her elder son Darius after a courageous battle with chronic heart failure. Cynthia is the beloved wife of the late Rajendar Paul Gill. Beloved daughter of the late Kishore Chand Sahgal and Elizabeth Hilda Sahgal nee Massey. Loving mother of Darius (Elizabeth) and Raoul (Mona) Gill. Doting step grandmother of Matthew (Brittany) and Jennifer Murphy and step great grandmother of Jack and Owen Murphy. Dearest sister of Sarware Tiwana. Fondest aunt of Yasmin and Omar Tiwana. Cynthia loved life in all its aspects. She doted on her family and friends and her beloved dogs. She enjoyed nothing more than cooking up a storm and feeding one and all. Cynthia was born in Lahore, Punjab in what was then British India on the eve of World War II. She spent her formative years there during the Second World War and later, in the 1950s, in Burma, Indonesia and Sweden as the child of an Indian diplomat. After marriage, she lived in New Delhi until she migrated, with her husband and two sons, to the US where she settled in the Chicagoland area in 1980. After a brief effort at entrepreneurship (as the owner of a coffee shop and restaurant), and with the premature death of her husband five years later, she worked as a banker for 18 years and then became a Medicaid specialist for the next 15 years before retiring in 2013. Cynthia was proud of the achievements of her family over the years. As she once remarked, '…America reached out to welcome us, full of opportunities to follow our dreams if we worked to achieve them….' A prayer service for her was held on Wednesday March 24th and she was subsequently cremated in accordance with her wishes.
