CLERMONT A. ROOT - BURLINGTON - Clermont A. Root, 89, of Burlington, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014, in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington after a long illness. Clem was born in Burlington on Feb. 2, 1925, the son of the late Clermont A. and Gertrude E. (Signor) Root. He served in the United States Navy during World War II on the Naval Cruiser Boise in the South Pacific. Clem owned and operated a home remodeling business in the Burlington area for 25 years with his former wife, Pauline. He was later married to Virginia Reed in 1994. Among his many interests, Clem especially enjoyed playing backgammon, cribbage and other card games, plus enjoyed doing puzzles with his wife, Ginny. Clem was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Burlington, and the Elks Lodge in Burlington. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Herbert Root of Burlington; his daughter, Pamela Anne Root of Duluth, Ga.; his former wife, Pauline Cyr Root; sister, Constance Riley of Burlington; Virginia's son, Michael and his wife, Marilyn Hebert, of Rochester, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews. Clem was predeceased by his daughter, Deborah Jean Root, on Dec. 3, 1974. A graveside service will be held on Friday, Sept. 19, 2014, at 10 a.m. in Lakeview Cemetery in Burlington.
