Christopher Smith Obituary

Smith, Christopher H. 58, longtime resident of Aspen, Colorado, drowned in a boating accident in the Florida Keys on Monday, June 27. Smith, who grew up in Winnetka and attended Skokie School, was the son of Diana Beuttas and the late George D. Smith II. Smith attended the Stockbridge School in Massachusetts and moved to Aspen in the 1970s after graduating from Colorado College. He was the founder of Aspen Earth Moving Company and an active member of the Aspen community. Survivors include his wife, Toni Zurcher; daughter Colby; and sons, Coulter and Bridger. He is also survived by his siblings, Deborah Hatch of North Conway, NH; Eleanor Land of Ojai, CA; The Rev. George Smith III of Glen Ellyn, IL; Thomas Smith of Atlanta, GA; and Peggy Coffee of Winnetka. There are plans for a memorial service in Aspen later this summer.
