Brooks, Charles Crawford Charles Crawford Brooks was the fourth child born to William P. and Wilhelmina Eugenia Brooks of Asheville, North Carolina on November 3, 1919. He completed elementary school in Ashville, North Carolina and high school in Washington, D.C. Charles was attending Hampton Institute in Hampton, Virginia when World War Two started. He earned a certificate in Auto Mechanics and joined the United States Navy. His training at Hampton Institute led him to achieve the rank of Airman First Class while in the service of his country during World War Two. He was very active in Saint Marks United Methodist Church and was named Man of the Year on several Occasions. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Syndonia Mae Brooks and four of his five brothers; William P. Brooks, Jr; James E. Brooks; Reuben Brooks and his youngest brother Horace W. Brooks. He leaves to cherish his memory, Booker T. Brooks, brother; Christopher Calloway, nephew; Peter C. Brooks, nephew; Crystal Jackson, niece; Lynn Newkirk, niece; several cousins and many loving friends. Charles passed on September 18, 2013. Visitation at A.A. Rayner & Sons Friday, September 27, 2013 from 2-9pm. Funeral Services will be Saturday, September 28, 2013 10:00am wake, 11:00am Funeral at St. Mark United Methodist Church, 8441 S. St. Lawrence Avenue, Chicago, Illinois 60619. Interment immediately following to Sunset Cemetery.

To God Be The Glory. Charles was like a father to me when I lived in Chicago from 1975-1978. There was never a mean bone in his body. We all loved Charles and wanted him to live forever. However, the Bible says that it is appointed once for man to die. God gave Charles 90 plus years and then called him to his eternal home. Now Charles can be with his beloved Sedonia and live forever in Heaven. May we all find comfort for being a part of Charles' life while he was on earth. A.T. Mills, III & family

We would like to express our condolences to the family of Charles C. Brooks.

We used to take piano lessons at the Brooks home/music studio and always looked forward to his smile (which he shared whether or not we played the correct notes). He was very supportive to us as young musicians and we will always remember that.
