Charlane Manchen Obituary

Manchen, Charlane M. (nee Thompson) aka "Big Mama," "Mooma," "Snooks" and "Char-Char," of River Grove and formerly of Elmwood Park, IL, and Sun Lakes, AZ, born December 29, 1930, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on August 25, 2014. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles J. "Boss" Manchen, and sister. Jane Thompson; is survived by her two children, Charles F. (Pamela) and Marjorie A. (Bart Smith); her two grandchildren, Charles Jr. and Peter; her granddog, Theodor; her brother, Patrick Thompson; cousin Victoria Soteras; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, devoted former students, and numerous loving friends, including the "Senior Posse." A native of Chicago and a graduate of Providence High School, Chicago Teachers College, DePaul University, and the University of Chicago, including two master's degrees; she was an accomplished concert pianist, and a teacher of music for 30 years at Ascension Catholic School In Oak Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Sisters of Providence (spsmw.org) or the Ursuline Sisters (www.osucentral.org). A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at Ascension Church (808 East Ave., Oak Park) with visitation commencing at 5:00 p.m. Final services private.
