Catherine Gibson Obituary

Catherine Humphreys Carnley Gibson, age 97, of Pensacola, FL passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on February 25, 2016.

Catherine was born to Frank Clinton Humphreys and Anita Schmitz Humphreys March 24, 1918, in Pensacola, FL. As a lifelong native of Pensacola our mother adored growing up with her East Hill friends, swimming and sailing at Bayview. She also had a lifelong passion for Pensacola Beach, the water and family game nights which she leaves as her legacy. She was proud to be honored at the Galvez Celebration as a descendant of the original Spanish settlers.

She was preceded in death by our father Carl Allen Carnley, Sr.; her second husband, Wiley H “Bill” Gibson; and her eldest daughter, Joan Carnley Fejfar; her brothers, Frank Clinton, Arthur, and Ed Humphreys; as well as her sisters, Edith Turner, Rita Saunders, and Ruth Bailey.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Lenz; and by her children, Carl Carnley, Jr. (Susan), Barbara Carnley Hultman (Eric), Bill Carnley, Alice Carnley Martin (Bill), Betty Carnley Shoopman (Denny), and Jan Carnley Cook (DeVann). Meme will be missed by an abundant family to include her 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grand children, and a host of loving grandchildren by marriage.

Catherine was retired from University Hospital. She was honored to be a member of St. Marks Methodist Church, Daughter of the Nile, Shimron Temple #133, Scottish Rite Women’s Association, and the Widows Club of the Hadji Shrine Temple.

Visitation will be held 12:00noon until a service to celebrate Catherine's life to begin at 1:30pm Monday, February 29, 2016 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Gerald Munday officiating. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.
