CAROLE A. UMMEL, 71, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born in Huntington, she was a teacher at St. Vincent's for a number of years prior to teaching at Fort Wayne Community Schools, retiring in 1974, with 15 years of service. She was a member of Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, an Antique Dealer for several years and an avid IU Basketball fan. Carole loved her dogs, Lila and Sampson and cats, Rocky, Sweetie and Mitty. Surviving are her husband, Richard P. Ummel of Fort Wayne; son, Jeremy Ummel of Fort Wayne; daughter, Darcy (Andrew Moses) Ummel of Fort Wayne; step-daughter, Pam (Dr. Mike) Feldman of Dayton, Ohio; step-sons, Greg (Beverly) Ummel of Fort Wayne, Dick Ummel II of Sarasota, Fla.; grandchildren, Dyllan, David, Ryan, Nikki and Tessa; sisters, Marianne Vaughn of Fort Wayne and Marilyn Vaughn of Churubusco; brother, Philip Vaughn of Churubusco; and sister-in-law, Judy Vaughn of Gaines, Mich. Carole was preceded in death by parents, Ralph and Mary Vaughn; and brother, David Vaughn. Mass of Christian Burial is 10 a.m. Monday at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, 1515 Barthold St., with calling one hour prior. Fr. Joseph Gaughan officiating. Calling also from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., with Vigil at 4:30 p.m. Burial in Catholic Cemetery.
