Carl Steiner Obituary

Steiner, Carl L. Born March 5, 1915. Died March 29, 2013 at age 98. Carl was a nationally known transportation lawyer. Beloved husband of the late Ruth Steiner (nee Friedman) and the late Elaine Steiner (nee Goldberg); proud father of Steve (Dorothy) Steinberg, Rick Steinberg, Joel (Beverley Klein) Steiner, Peter (Cindy Weinstein) Steinberg, Barbara (Robert Schmidt) Steiner; loving grandfather of Bart (Daniel Rutkowski) Steinberg, Jeannie (Patrick) Marshall, Rachel Steiner, Stephen Steiner, Daniel (Jessi McCormick) Schmidt, Michael (Hannah) Schmidt, Alissa Steinberg and Deborah Steinberg. A man who embraced life with enthusiasm, dignity, integrity and gentle kindness, who surrounded himself with many lifelong friends. He seamlessly mixed business, social, and family life, and his personal devotion to family was felt in everything he did. Raised by Fanny, a single mother, Carl graduated in 1930 at age 16 from Austin High School in 1935 from Northwestern University and in 1938 from John Marshall Law School. Carl was personally responsible for 2 landmark cases in the U.S. Supreme Court that remain the subject of study in law schools today. Carl L. Steiner, father and friend, will be missed by all. Chapel service Tuesday, 10 a.m. at Piser Chapels, 9200 North Skokie Blvd. (at Church St.) Skokie. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.
