I remember the day we met, 7th or 8th grade spelling bee. We were the last two competitors and were fierce. I don’t remember which one of us won, but I do remember gaining a best friend for the next couple of years. She hated being an only child and I hated being one of many. I miss you Candy. We shared so much, so young and had so much fun. Especially pretending to be tough because of where we were from, when we were not at all.

I remember how we met. I think it was 8th grade. We were competing like mad in a spelling contest. We were the last 2 finalists. I don't remember who won but I do remember the beginning of a beautiful friendship of singing, gossip and laughter. Some fun sleepovers too, getting in trouble with Candy's mom because we kept laughing late into the night

I remember you well!

I am so sad to hear of
Candy's passing. I have not seen her for many years. we were friends in grade school. I spent many hours at her house in the housing project where we both lived. We talked, laughed and sang together. the Supremes were our favorites. She came to help me babysit and I joined her at her cousin's house. We dreamed of our future and lost touch over the years. I am happy to hear of her happy marriage and many children as I remember how much she wanted that as an only child. We shared many secrets as young girls do. God bless her!

Candy was a very special friend to me during a difficult time in my life. Her support was unwavering. I have always been inspired by her resilience and courage. I loved to hear her tell stories and laugh. We shared many lunches in the old Atrium Cafe at Rush. My deepest condolences to all of her family.

To Bernie & all of Candy's children and grandchildren. Candy was an extraordinary person and friend. I met Candy at Rush Hospital. We worked many midnights together. When she transferred to the neuro ICU, she was my "boss". As a nurse and leader, Candy was the best. She always advocated for her patients and provided each of them with excellent nursing care. Personally, Candy was loyal, trustworthy, and very wise. I admired her courage, strength, and unconditional love for her family (I feel like I know all of you well). Bless Candy as she is free from discomfort. She lived her life to the fullest & exemplified a Christianity at its best. My thoughts & prayers will remain with all of you. Sincerely, Karen Oberman
