Blanche Lay Obituary

Blanche Brown Lay, age 95, of Glenwood died Saturday, January 14, 2006.

She was born on January 16, 1910 at Amity, the daughter of the late John and Nancy Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband, Horace L. Lay. She was the fifth and last survivor of her six siblings, Virginia Anderson, Orbie Brown, Grace Sullivan, Hazel Epperson, Curt Brown and John Brown.

She was an elementary teacher for almost 40 years in Oregon and California, as well as Arkansas public school systems in Amity, El Dorado, and Glenwood. She was a member of the Glenwood United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Joe Mike Lay and his wife, Vibsen, of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Pat Lay and his wife, Sharon, of Hot Springs; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Her last four years were spent in the Oak Park Village Retirement Center and the Glenwood Nursing Home where she received loving care.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, January 16, 2006 in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Rev. Beth Turner officiating.

Visitation will be Sunday, 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM.

Interment will be in the Glenwood Cemetery.

Ms. Lay was my first grade teacher in 1969. She was so gentle and caring that you always felt safe around her. Many years later, when I graduated from Veterinary School, Ms. Lay tracked me down and gave me a graduation gift. It really meant a lot to me.

I worked for Mrs. Lay and her sister Hazel for seven yrs.They where wonderful kind ladies and they will be missed very much.They were so much more then employers to me,we had a great friendship as well.
