"The Senator" (as he was affectionately known) was not only a musician, but a supporter of music. I will always cherish his kind efforts to support my Junior Klezmer Orchestra, helping our little band of young people to continue these past several years with his encouragement and backing. His sponsorship of an annual "Bagel Brunch" at which my Maxwell Street Klezmer Band played was a highlight of our year: especially when he would come up on the stage, violin in hand, and play the Russian Sherele with the band. He loved music and supported Jewish culture, and I am sure he can be heard fiddling now at the gates of heaven. May his memory be for a blessing--we'll miss you, Senator.
