Bernard McGeever Obituary

McGeever, Bernard "Bernie" 79, formerly of lngleside, Illinois, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2014, surrounded by his family. Born February 19, 1935 in Cloontia, Co. Mayo, Ireland, Bernie worked alongside his brothers for ten years in London, England before coming to the United States in 1960. He met his beloved wife, Teresa (nee Clifford), in Chicago, Illinois and they married in 1965. Bernie was a longtime member of Ironworkers' Union Local No. 1, and he worked for several years in the construction of several Chicago buildings, including the Sears (Willis) Tower, and the Dirksen Federal Building. Always a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, Bernie is survived by his children, Eileen (Troy) McCabe, Rockford, Josie (Sean) Morrisroe, Crystal Lake, James (Jana), Hawthorn Woods, Sean (Diedra) Grayslake, and Brian, Ingleside; grandchildren, Morgan and Devin Morrisroe, Shannon, Ryan and Katelyn McGeever, and Riley and Logan McGeever; his brothers, Patrick (Mary) of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Tom (Stella) of Kendal, England, and sisters, Bridget Battersby of London, England, and Teresa (Bill) Black, of Crestwood, Illinois; his uncle, Thomas Finn of Cloontia, Co. Mayo, Ireland; sister-in-law, Mary Wodcinsky; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bernie was preceded in death by his loving wife, Teresa; his parents, Brian and Kathleen McGeever; his brother, Joseph, and sisters, Kathleen McNulty, Mary O'Leary and Ann Griffin. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 14, 2014, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E. Belvidere Rd, Grayslake, IL 60030. The funeral Mass is scheduled for Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 10:00 a.m., at St. Bede Catholic Church, 36455 N. Wilson Road, Ingleside, IL, 60041, with interment to follow immediately at Ascension Catholic Cemetery in Libertyville.
