I am so sad to learn that Mrs. Johnson has passed away. Twenty years ago, unreal? She was a great person, principal, and friend. I had the utmost respect for her. She commanded it and she got it! She held us accountable as teachers and other professionals at Caroline High School as we engaged in a positive learning environment for the students. There was a welcome door for parents as well as she made herself available to them.

To the Family, Thank you for sharing Mrs. Johnson with us. She worked tirelessly in the vineyard. Mrs. Johnson, you will be always remembered! The time seem short; but God had it all under control. Loving submitted, Karen

Mrs. Johnson may be gone, but she will always live in my heart. I can still hear those words "Get back to class" "Keep it moving" in my head. Mrs. Johnson was hard on us and I never understood why back then, but now I know. She had a reason. She wanted us to succeed in life. She will be truly missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Johnson family.

I would like to express my deepest sympathy to the family of Mrs. Johnson. I am very saddened by the news of her passing. As a former student of Henrico High, I remember a strong, no-nonsense woman who expected only the best from her students and did not settle for anything less. Mrs. Johnson has been an inspiration to me as well as many others. We will miss, and may God bless those you left behind.

May God bless Mrs. Johnson's family. She was at Henrico High at the right time and displayed the type of leadership that the students needed at that time.

As a former President of the Henrico County Civic League, we marched from Pine Camp Park to Henrico High on May 17, 1987 to demand that African American High School Principals be appointed in Henrico County. Mrs. Johnson was appointed in late June of 1987 to Henrico High. God is good and he heard our pleas. Thank God for Mrs. Johnson and I am sure that she touched the lives of many young people including my youngest daughter who attended there under her administration.

Mrs. Johnson, may you elevate to the heights that we all pray to reach now that you have left this plane.

May strength and harmony keep your family, that they may carry on your legacy.

Mrs. Johnson was not just the principal of Henrico High School, but the backbone that kept students in check, while giving us just enough freedom to grow into responsible young adults. A strong female role model for all to witness, she held us to high expectations and accepted nothing less than the very best from all of her students; she even made the "knuckle-heads" pay respect. I'll never forget her strong presence or the "golf-cart" from which she commanded, "Keep moving! Keep moving!" between classes. (We'll never forget that!) Like a sergeant in the military, Mrs. Johnson kept us in check and never let us half-step. Thank you Mrs. Johnson for holding the standards high. We'll never forget you.

Love Always,

Some teachers and faculty you forget through the years but we never forgot you. You displayed discipline, intelligence, honor and class…I thank you and hope GOD greets you by saying well done my child for you ran a diligent race. Let's rejoice in the Lord! I was one of Mrs. Johnson's students that gave her a lot of trouble during her days at Henrico High. But for all the the trouble I gave her, she just gave me solid advice, needed discipline, and a sense of purpose for my life. Thanks to Mrs. Johnson I graduated from college, hold a masters degree and now in law school. I guess trouble do pay off when Mrs. Johnson is involved. I will miss you, but I will never forget you, ever! Vernida R. Chaney, Henrico High School Class of 1995

To the Johnson family, I wish to express my deepest sympathy. Mrs. Johnson and I worked together when she was at Henrico High School and I was at central office. She was quite a lady with her own special flair. She wanted her students to succeed and they did. The flowers on campus looked beautifully during her administration. Take your rest, Bernadine, and thanks for inspiring others to succeed.

Sincerely,

The Diggs Family
