Basil DiNovo Obituary

DiNovo, Basil W. age 63, of Knox, IN, formerly of Hammond, IN, passed away June 20, 2005. Basil was born on April 13, 1942, in Chicago, IL. He was a graduate of Walkerville Michigan High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He belonged to the American Legion Post 92 in North Judson, IN. Basil worked for Ryerson Tull with 38½ years of service. He retired in 2003 to Knox, IN. Basil is survived by his wife of 39 years, Jennie (nee Davis) DiNovo; children, Brenda (Jim) Veen of Winter Garden, FL, Tammy (Kevin) Benson of Valparaiso, Jeffery (Kimberly) DiNovo of Dyer, Kelly DiNovo-Keith of Hammond, and just like a daughter, Angie Haidos; grandchildren, Marc (Meghan) Veen, Mandalyn (fiance, Eric) Benson, Amber Keith, Katelyn Veen, Ashlyn Soy, Kevin Benson, Koen Keith, Joshua DiNovo and Kayle DiNovo; and one great-grandchild, Leann Early; his faithful dog, Patty and his cat, Fat-Cat. Basil is also survived by his mother, Evelyn (late Anthony) DiNovo; brothers, Merle (Joann) DiNovo of Bolingbrook, IL and Russel (Sally) DiNovo of Beverly Hills, FL; sisters, Esta DiNovo of Whiting and Tony Greenleaf of Hessville; sister-in-law, Luann DiNovo of Hammond; special friends, James and Carol Cooper of Hammond, Tony and Estelle Betz of Knox, Frank and Grace Belcaster of DeMotte, IN, Frank and Brenda Whitaker of Walkerville, MI and Margi and Val for their special cards and prayers; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and all of the Ryerson employees who knew him and worked with him. Basil was preceded in death by his sister, Anita Likes and brothers, Myron DiNovo, Cedric DiNovo and Anthony DiNovo. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., on Friday, June 24, 2005, at Virgil Huber Funeral Home, 7051 Kennedy Ave., Hammond, IN, with Pastor Kenneth Davis officiating. Friends may visit with the family on Friday, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 4 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m., Friday evening. Basil was a great father and husband. He will be missed by all. He chose to be cremated. Apologies to anyone that was missed.
