Palmer, Barbara L. (nee Lee), of Homewood, adored wife of Jack Palmer, wonderful mother of Jon and dear mother-in-law of Joanna of Chicago Heights, loving grandmother of three fantastic granddaughters, died Saturday, March 31st, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Barbara faced her illness as she faced her life with strength, determination, great wit and wisdom. She began her 27 year long career in education as a French teacher at Thornton High School in Harvey where she met her future husband, Jack. She served as Dean of Students, at Thornwood High School in South Holland and as a District 205 administrator. In 1986, she became principal of Thornridge High School in Dolton. As one of the first woman high school adminstrators in the South Suburbs, Barbara did what she did best, mentored teachers, developed curriculum, and led the school and students with grace, confidence and skill. After retiring in 1994, Barbara continued to contribute to School District 205, as a special projects consultant. In retirement, Barbara enjoyed many continued friendships, good times on Anna Maria Island, FL, with Jack and sharing movie outings and popcorn with her granddaughters, Barbara will be greatly missed by the many family, friends and colleagues who loved and admired her. Visitation will be at the Tews Funeral Home, 18230 Dixie Hwy., Homewood, Tuesday, April 3, 2007, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. services will be Wednesday, 10 a.m,. at Infant Jesus at Prague Church, Leavitt Ave. and Flossmoor Rd., Flossmoor.
