Barbara Beard Obituary

Barbara Jean Beard died on August 8, 2012 at her home.

She was born in Yakima, Washington on May 30, 1939 to Helen and Lloyd Moon. As a young girl she worked on the Hop Ranch in Yakima and spent summers with her grandfather in Horse Heaven Hills in a mule drawn, rubber tired, sheep herder's wagon.

She moved to the Walla Walla Valley during her grade school years and rode horse back to East Side Grade School in Milton-Freewater. She was the oldest of 9 brothers and sisters. She attended Mac-Hi and graduated from WA-HI in 1958. Soon after high school, she married Dick Daniel and had a son (Jeff) and a daughter (Marjorie).

Barbara worked as an executive secretary for the regional Safeway Manager in Walla Walla. In 1997, she graduated from Walla Walla Community College with an Associates Degree in Applied Arts & Sciences as a Legal Administrative Assistant. She worked for an attorney for several years and retired as an Office Manager at RE/MAX Real Estate Agency.

Barbara was a multi-talented, prolific knitter and crocheter. Her handy work is with families all around town. She was a skilled duplicate bridge player. Later in life, she learned to play the piano and autoharp. Barbara was a very thoughtful, approachable and kind person that people warmed to almost instantly. In 1995, she married James Beard and the two of them lived a loving life together until her death.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Beard; son, Jeff Daniel & daughter-in-law Roseanne Daniel; daughter, Marjorie Casper & son-in-law Steve Casper; 4 grandchildren, Amber Daniel, JJ Daniel, Mick Casper, Addie Casper; 4 sisters Annie Dare; Helen Y. McDonald, Roberta Wells & Vickie Estrada; 4 brothers David Loomis, Dennis Loomis, Johnny Loomis & Robert Loomis; 2 step-daughters, Chloe Beard & Kay Bridges and numerous nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

There will be a Funeral Service at the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA on Thursday August 16, at 3:00 PM. Following the service, there will be a reception at the Walla Walla Country Club at 5:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made in her name to the St. Mary Cancer Center through the funeral home.

Dear Jim and Family: I know that Barbara is now at peace. She made a gallant try, but it just proved too difficult. She was my bridge friend and was talking about returning to duplicate bridge when I visited her last year. My deepest condolences to all. She was one of the sweetest people I have known.
