Dr. Loughran inspired me to pursue a career in surgery. He was a superb teacher, a kind, gentle, and incredibly energetic man. I pray for him and his family. He was one of the most beautiful human beings I have ever met. It was a privilege to know him. May he rest in the bosom of the Lord.

I am writing on behalf of my mother who was a patient of Dr. Loughran's for many years, before she moved out of the area. He was always very compassionate and understanding of her medical problems and she was very sad to learn of his death.

We are stunned, upon returning to Chicago today and reading, in the Trib, of Audley's death. He remains our inspiration. For example, Audley donated many boxes of medical supplies to the El Nispero, Honduras clinic whose shelves had been completely bare during a time of horrendous child mortalities. During El Salvador's civil war he donated urgently needed suture materials, etc., to a hospital there.

I had the opportunity to work with Dr. Loughran for 28 years. He lived life to the fullest and was quite the humanitarian. I am very lucky to have known him. I will always have a special place in my heart for him.
