Dad , you came to my dream a few weeks before mom passed . I knew you were coming to take mom . I love you so much dad and miss you and please take care of mom in heaven. I miss mom too , so much . Dad it´s scary to be here without you or mom . My heart feels broken without you . Love

When I was 9 I went to pet a turtle in the Mississippi River & fell in, my dad came out of nowhere and reached down with one hand and picked me up like I weighed a pound. I´ll never forget it that. He always saved me & continues to do so. When it´s my time, I know he will grab me and protect me just like that day.

I and a lot of other guys who worked out in the Ravenswood YMCA weight room in the 1960's/70's knew and liked and looked up to Art. A heck of a nice guy and a good man. We who were teens at the time admired him as a policeman and as a role model. And on top of all that he was funny as heck! Rest Well, Art.

I did not know Art. I know of him through his wife, Arlene. He was a very nice gentleman.

Will never forget Art...we all remember him fondly...I looked up to him as a kid working out at the Ravenswood Y...fearless, tough, but a nice man. God bless Art.

Art was one hell of a Policeman,he started a new decoy team at MTU team E and it was a great honor to learn and know Art he will truly be missed by all of us that knew him and worked with him.

I remember Art from the Ravenswood Y where he was a handball player and I was a weightlifter. I remember how he talked, slowly and with humor. He was a 'regular' part of the crew almost every day, along with his brother, Marv. We thought the world of him. Thank you for your service as a policeman, Art, and for your laughs. They don't make 'em like they used to.

My condolences go out to the Novit family. Your dad welcomed me right into his home with open arms the first time we met. Still to me the funniest and handsomest old man I have ever met! Nicolas and I will surely miss him and I promise to let Nicolas know every story I ever heard about his grandpa and every story and joke I heard him say. We love you Art! Love Always, Yari.

On behalf of the Novit family we would like to share our thanks on everyones kind words.We never knew what an impact my father had on peoples lives.My father was very modest,sometimes we would tell him that other policemen thought of him as a legend and he never believed us.It was not a job to him,it was just him being himself.Looking through all of these honorable mentions and awards we feel truly honored to have known and loved a man such as him.We always knew he was a great father but never realized the extent of his bravery and passion on the police force.I truly want to thank each person who took the time to write something,say a prayer or pay their respects.My father would have never thought in a million years he would have so many kind words said about him,He honestly thought "superman" was forgotten.It is through all of you that he lives and is remembered.

Art was truly a legend of the Department both for his crime fighting and, of course, his unbelievable sense of humor.

I worked with Art for many years. He was a great guy and was always there when you needed him. Rest in peace Art.

My first day working in the Chicago Police Depts. "Mass Transit" unit was with Art, wow, one tough copper!

His legendary "Superman" routine while doing robbery decoy work is not a legend, it is the absolute TRUTH!

Inspired me to join the decoy squad, and I ended up doing decoy work for almost 20 years as a detective.

Ended up being robbed more the 500 times. That maybe a record, but I know in my heart of hearts, I wasn't 1/10th the copper Art was!

Grandpa i heard so many wonderful stories about u. U were the original Superman from Chicago. I'm glad i got to see u and talk to u. I'll do my best to honor the Novit name. I love u! I lit a candle for u on here as i have been at home. Love,

I am very sorry for your loss, Art was a great Person & Police Officer!He definitely was the Superman of the Subway. He took me under his wing and passed on his expertice in acting as a decoy & crime prevention techniques!

Here is to a "Great Policeman", who shall live forever in the annuals of Mass Transit Unit.
It was my pleasure to have known him and worked with him.

I met him as a young policeman working in 018 and hoisted a few with him off duty. He was a legend and took the time to teach me and tell me great stories even though I didn't have a clue of what Mass Transit did. He was one of the good guys and was 'Superman'. Bob Signoretti (Ret)

Worked with Art in the 14th District and he truly was one of a kind. Could not ask for a better partner or back up. My prayers are with the Novit family on their loss.

The Kerbis family and myself personally loved Art...He was respected by all that really knew him..When I was a young boy Art caught me doing something very wrong..With a little roughness he "straightened"me out..Then he found out that he was close friends with my brothers and my Dad..We became lifelong friends..He was my hero in so many ways,I'll miss him,Hell,I miss him already !!!
