Art Cook Obituary

Art Cook 7/28/1919 ~ 9/6/2004  CEDAR VALLEY, UT - Arthur Quayle Cook, 85, passed away with family beside him on September 6, 2004.  Born in Cedar Valley, Utah on July 28, 1919 to William Henry and Elizabeth Elton Cook, he contracted polio at the age of two. This left him crippled physically, however his strength of mind, heart and soul was an inspiration to his family and friends. Art never allowed his frail condition to limit his life in ANY way. He ran a farm with his brothers and was named Utah Cattleman of the Year in 1992. As an active member of the LDS Church, Art truly lived his religion. He taught by example the teachings he loved so much. If Art could teach one thing in life, it was moderation in all things.  He was named Hometown Hero for Cedar Valley in 2001, but will be "our" hero forever. Art is survived by his brother, Clyde and Carolyn Cook of Cedar Valley and sisters, Leona Bird of Lehi; Vivian and Kermit DuBois of Bountiful; Ruth DeBoer of Bountiful and sister-in-law, Lois Cook of Cedar Valley. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John L. Cook and Ernest Cook, brother-in-law, Jerry Bird, sisters, Nettie and (Dean) Hayes, LaVerne Creighton, and Thelma Pohlman. He is survived by many nieces and nephews as well as by many friends and extended family.  The family would like to express their love and appreciation to Margaret Johnson who cared for Art with love and compassion. The family would also like to express a special thank you to Vista Care Hospice, Marie Jensen, Chris Richins, and especially to Adam Sepulveda who became part of our family. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the Cedar Valley LDS Chapel. Friends and family may call at the Wing Mortuary, 118 E. Main, Lehi, Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. and at the Church in Cedar Fort, Saturday one hour prior to services. Interment in the Cedar Fort Cemetery.

I JUST WANTED TO LET "THE FAB-FOUR" KNOW HOW MUCH I MISS YOU ALL AND THANK YOU FOR THE FRIENDSHIP AND LOVE YOU SHOWED OVER THE PAST YEAR. DESPITE THE EXTREME AGE GAP {SHARON}, I FOUND A FRIENDSHIP WITH HUMOR, LOVE, AND SUPPORT IN EACH OF YOU THAT MOST PEOPLE SEARCH A LIFETIME LOOKING FOR... AND FOR THAT I AM IN DEBT TO YOU ALL! A DAY WILL NEVER GO BY WITHOUT A THOUGHT OF ALL OF YOU AND ART, AND ALL THE LAUGHS AND TEARS THAT WERE SHARED IN A LIVING ROOM... AND DESPITE HOW THE ROOM CHANGES OVER TIME, I WILL ALWAYS SEE ART WITH HIS CASUAL SMILE TELLING ME NOT TO FORGET HIS "WHISTLE", OR CUTE LITTLE MARGARET HUSTLING TO THE DOOR TO GREET ME, OR RUTH TELLING ME MY HAIR LOOKS BETTER CURLY AND NOT STICKING UP {GROSS}, HOLDIND JANET IN MY ARMS WHEN SHE WEPT OVER SAN DIEGO BEATING K.C.{WELL I WOULD HAVE IF THAT WAS TO HAPPEN OK?}, AND BEST... NORTH AMERICAN HUNTERS MAGAZINE COVER SHOT OF SHARON AND HER TROPHY..... RAT!! I WILL CHERISH ALL OF THOSE MEMORIES {DESPITE COUNSEL FROM MY THERAPIST} AND WANT ALL OF YOU TO KNOW THAT I WOULD GO THROUGH IT ALL AGAIN JUST TO BE IN THAT ROOM ONE MORE TIME WITH YOU ALL. I LOVE YOU ALL AND THANK YOU AGAIN FOR YOUR OPEN ARMS TO ME AND MY FAMILY AND THE OPPORTUNITY IN WHICH I HAD TO MEET A GREAT MAN AND HIS LOVED ONES!

LOVE,
JESSE JAMES

I was so sad to read of Art's passing. I took care of him about 4-5 years ago at Lakeview Hospital as a nurses assistant. He tounched me then, and I have never forgotten him. I'm now an RN and live in CA, and still think of him to this day. His influence has far reaching effects.

Our son, Adam, has spoken so highly of Art and the last few days of Art's life were difficult ones for Adam as he prepared himself to say good-bye to a beloved friend. We are grateful for the wonderful example Art has been of the Gospel and for the time he took to share his life with Adam. Our thanks to Art's wonderful family and wonderful, wonderful, Margaret for taking Adam into their hearts and treating him as one of their own. When Adam called to inform us of Art's passing he expressed tearful pleasure at the knowledge that Art was now walking and would be meeting his parents again. How grateful we are for those who "endure well" life's trials and in doing so strengthening the testimonies of those left behind. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

I have many memories of Art and chasing his cows all over Cedar Fort! My dad and I and my little sister spent many weekends at his house helping him in any way we could. I loved being around him he always had a smile. I will never forget the good times I had. I will miss him but I am happy to know that he is now able to walk after all these years! I send my love to the family members.
