Antonia Reyes Obituary

Reyes, Antonia Jimenez (1924-2012) After a long and full life, Antonia "Toni" Reyes heard the call of the lord, returning home to join her husband, Pedro, and two sons, Arthur and Pedro. She left Puerto Rico and arrived in Chicago in 1946 to pursue a career in nursing. Soon after, she married Pedro Reyes and dedicated her time to raising her family. Antonia moved to the South Suburbs in 1971. Still feeling the call to help others, she worked for Catholic Charities for 18 years. She volunteered at St. James Hospital and Oak Forest Hospital serving communion with chaplains. Antonia's commitment to others and devotion of faith propelled her to volunteer 20 years to the Charismatic Renewal of the Catholic Church. Her devotion to family and charity was acknowledged by the Lions Club as Citizen of the Year. She left a strong impression upon Chicago Heights politics with many years of campaign assistance and organization of Hispanic voters. She will be deeply missed by every heart she has touched, especially those of her surviving children: Theresa (Edward) Morrison of Crystal Lake, IL, Norma (Linus) Petravicius of Union Pier, MI, Sylvia (Cecilio) Torres of Chicago Heights, IL, Miriam Santiago of Oak Forest, IL, Mildred (Alexander) Reyes-Williams of Lynwood, IL, and Benjamin (Cheryl) Reyes of Sycamore, IL as well as her 17 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks donations to be made to www.givecentral.org direct donations to St. Agnes School in Chicago Heights. Visitation will be Friday, June 15, 4-9 p.m. at Hirsch West End Chapel, 3501 W. Lincoln Hwy. Matteson, IL. Funeral Mass Saturday, June 16th 10a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Chicago Heights, IL. Grandma I can't believe its been 11 years since your passing. I miss you everyday. I love you. I would drive by you apartment whenever I was on 57 and could see it from the expressway. I know you still looking over everyone I see a white butterfly and lately its been daily. I saw one today and new it was you. The day we had your final resting place from the time left the Cemetery there was a white buttterfly on my car the whole way home I knew you were still with me. I was playing with my grand kids in the back yard when it was just flying around and sat in the yard like you were watching us. I miss you so much!

Love you Grandma Toni
