Anne Hasman Obituary

Hasman, Anne (nee Kalcik) Born in Chicago, IL, on July 17, 1912, died peacefully in hospice care on March 23, 2017. Affectionately known as "Granny," she touched and nurtured many lives, from the very young to the very old, during her 104 years. She attended Chicago Public Schools and secretarial college, started a family, raised sons, Joseph John and Jan Francis (who died in 2010), and worked as an Administrative Assistant. In 1951, she and her family moved to Winnebago-Pecatonica, Illinois, where she provided talent and time to her church and to the schools which her sons attended. In April, 1980, her husband, Joseph Anthony, died, and she moved to Freeport, IL, where she was active in her church and many volunteer activities, including manning a suicide hotline three or four nights a week and working as a candy striper at the local hospital. In November, 1992, she moved to Evanston, IL, to help raise three of her grandchildren, Amy Georgeanne Morley, Joseph John II, and Jonathan Martin, after her daughter-in-law, Karen, died. In addition to the three grandchildren that she helped raise as though they were her own children, she is also survived by grandchildren, Lori Hasman, Jason Hasman, Sara Jan Selby, and CoCo Campbell; great-grandchildren, Ruby Anne Morley, Lyle Clarence Morley, and Katie Newham; and great-great-grandchild, Wyatt Newham. A Celebration of Granny's Life will be held on Friday, April 14, 2017, at 12:00 noon, at the DoubleTree Hotel, 9599 Skokie Blvd., Skokie, followed by a buffet luncheon and festive party at Prairie Moon Restaurant, 1502 Sherman Ave., Evanston. Granny asked that if you wish to send flowers, send them to a loved one with appropriate words of affection, or to your local nursing home or hospice.
