Alice F. Langford Buck

Alice Buck Obituary

Alice F. Langford Buck, 93, of Savannah, died Sunday, June 29, 2003, at home after several years of declining health and more recent complications from a stroke. She was born November 24, 1909, in Rochelle, where she was the youngest child of the late Albert Sydney Langford and Alice Riviere Langford. She grew up in Macon, but also spent parts of her childhood in various places including New Orleans, LA, and Knoxville, TN, where she graduated high school in 1927. Later that same year Alice moved to Savannah and lived at the YWCA. After the Great Depression, she went to work as a secretary for Friedmans Jewelry Co. where she met her husband, Aaron Wilson Buck whom she married March 22, 1938. Her husband preceded her in death May 2, 2002. Together they raised two daughters in Savannah. Her belief in God as a Christian was a very important and strong factor in her life. She lived out her faith as a faithful wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker who volunteered for the P.T.A. and was a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader. She had been a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Savannah where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Joy Sunday School class. In her later years, she especially enjoyed spending time with her family. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters, and several nieces and nephews. Survivors: two daughters and sons-in-law, Faye B. and Orion R. Kraft, Sr., of Savannah, and Joyce B. and Ken Simmons of Fairfield, IA; a granddaughter-in-law and grandson-in-law, Mary L. and The Rev. O. Ralph Kraft, Jr., of Asheboro, NC; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Debbie Faye and Richard Young of Atlanta; two great-grandchildren, Steven and Bethany Young of Atlanta; several cousins, nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and great-nephews. Visitation: 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home - Hodgson Memorial Chapel. Graveside Services: 1:00 p.m., Thursday, at Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park Cemetery with The Rev. Ralph Kraft of St. John Lutheran Church in Asheboro, NC, officiating. Remembrances: Epworth United Methodist Church, 2201 Bull St., Savannah, GA 31401, or Hospice Savannah, Inc., P.O.
