"The Gift of Goodbye"
It's been a year since you left this earth. An empty place no-one can fill. Life is not the same. Filled with sorrow, I never had a chance to say goodbye to you on the night you passed from this earth. Then I received a gift. I dreamt I was walking along a sandy shore. It was filled with so many people. I couldn't make out the faces of the people. It was so bright with the sun's reflection on still waters of an ocean. My journey lead me to a tidy green garden knowingly I was there to see you. As I reached the garden, there was a very tall and endless hedge that divided two paths. In front of the hedge, there you were, standing so strong, smiling through your tears (which you often did). Our emotions took over, we hugged, we cried, and you said to me, this is our goodbye and and I leave for you many blessings.
From that moment, I knew you had to continue onto your final journey, along a path of the unseen destination as I walked along the path to the tidy green garden, all the more wiser, knowingly I have been blessed.

"Full Moon, Sun Gold Tomatoes"
Today, on the eve of a full moon, I planted tomatoes in your honor. Sparked by memories of your phone calls asking when is this month's full moon so you can plant your tomatoes. Not sure if the full moon had any influence. I believe it was through your nurturing care that you brought to us, year after year, bags full of sun gold tomatoes.

Thank you for the use of your cars.

Thank you for bringing strangers to your home after Church on Sunday.

Thank you for the pool table. Thank you for the first TV with remote control that I had seen.

Thank you for welcoming me into your home for the first time. Thank you for welcoming me into your home everytime.

Thank you for making me/us stay overnight. Thank you for sending us home.

Thank you for sitting with me while I waited for Johnny.

Thank you for the food.

Thank you for the discipline. Thank you for looking the other way when we needed to figure it out ourselves.

Thank you for the front porch. Thank you for having us clean up the lawn on July 5th (all of them.)

Thank you for raising a glass with me. Thank you for toasting me.

And now I raise a glass to you, Alex - I celebrate all you have shared with me.

There are no standards by which to gauge how you have had an influence on me.

What I have are vivid memories, wonderful portraits in my mind that you have graced me with. I am most thankful for those.

It's been a week and I'm still struggling to find the words to express my love and gratitude for Aleks' influence on my life. He truly was my father figure. I'll forever hold in my heart his kindness and acceptance of me -his love for me. He will continue to be at every party and he'll show himself in our acts of hospitality. He taught us well. Heaven's garden will be even more beautiful for us with him tending it now. Until we see each other there, I love you, dad. Your Krysia

Uncle Aleks will be missed and will be in my memories forever.

I will always remember how strong you were and continued to be. You held me on my two wheel red bike so I can learn to ride it and comforted me when I fell. You held my little hands so I can learn to roller skate. You provided me with common sense during our Sunday morning driving sessions. You taught me how to dance. THese are my life lessons, to hold, to comfort, to teach, to dance.

You will never be forgotten and will always be in my prayers. You were always there whenever someone needed a helping hand and have a heart of gold. Im going to miss your weekly visits to our house. God bless you and love you so much

Pa Aleks will always be in our hearts and in our memories. I will always remember him as an admirable man that always wanted to help others despite the task and always took pride in his work. I learned many things from Pa Aleks, from how to shoot pool in his basement to ensuring that the lawn and all of our plants and flowers were in the best possible condition. He will surely be missed.

Very sorry to hear about the passing of your dad. My memories of him are always with a big smile on his face, and taking great joy in spending time with his family.
