I love the memories if have of Billie, and I recall them frequently as I continue through my life. His life gave continuously to those around him, as his contagious laugh, his infectious smile, or his ceaseless generosity to those he loved. Miss you dearly Billy.

Billy and I were close friends from age 3 to 8. I remember early mornings at the tobin household, busy kitchens, loud voices and big smiles. I remember sneaking into Billy's brother's room and scurrying around the house causing mischief where we could. Was thinking about him today and I just want to take a moment in these hard times to thank you Mrs Tobin, and all the other Tobins, for being pivotal fixtures in my early life. Bless you all

From our Tobin family to your Tobin family;
Our (deceased) sister, Moira Tobin Wickes always spoke of the close friendship her son Ed Wickes had with Billy during early childhood at St Gertrudes. Our hearts and thoughts go out to you. Much love, Virginia Tobin Payne.

My daughter Emily is in town for a couple of days and told me about Billy. They were direct classmates at St. Gert's. I am floored. I spent a lot of time with that class and know what a sweet kid he was. He was funny, happy, and a little devilish, as kids should be IMO. I don't have words nearly good enough to express my sorrow. This is terrible, not the way things should be at all.

Dear Tobin Family,
Our hearts break for you as you mourn the passing of Billy. Know that you are in our prayers during this journey of grief. This poem was helpful to our family when my brother died suddenly:

“Death is nothing at all – I have only slipped away into the next room. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Laugh as we always laughed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let my name be the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without effort. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was; there is absolutely unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of your mind because I am out of your sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near just around the corner. All is well. Nothing is past; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before – only better, infinitely happier and forever – we will all be one together with Christ.” (Carmelite Monastery, Tallow, County Waterford, Ireland)

“I'll Lend You a Child”
"I'll lend you for a little time a child of mine," He said.
For you to love - while he lives
And mourn for when he's dead.
It may be six or seven years
Or twenty-two or three,
But will you, till I call him back,
Take care of him for Me?
He'll bring his smiles to gladden you,
And should this stay be brief
You'll have his lovely memories as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
Since all from earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there
I want this child to learn.
I've looked this world over
In search for teachers true,
And from the throngs that crowd
Life's lanes, I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love,
Nor count the labor vain,
Nor hate Me when I come to call to
Take him back again?"
I fancied that I heard them say,
"Dear Lord, Thy will be done,
For all the joy Thy child shall bring,
The risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness,
We'll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we've known
Forever grateful stay.
But should the angels call for him
Much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that come
And try to understand."
