It's been a year since Uncle Nonny left us. It's still hard to believe. I had a voice mail message from him on the morning of the day he passed away. I couldn't bring myself to delete it. So I would hear his voice every morning, "Cookie, it's your Uncle Bill, call me." Now they installed a new phone system and the message is gone. I miss hearing his voice, but I still think of him every day.

I remember Uncle Nonny as a great caregiver to his children. As a child I spent many hours at his house to play with my cousins Sandy and Steve. He was a good cook and made great pork roast with sauerkraut and potatoes. He was always teasing and kidding around. He gave me a safe haven from Grandma and I will always remember him with great fondness as a true character. I'm sure he's up in heaven right now giving everyone a hard time.

I remember being a shy, chubby little girl who was afraid of everything and everyone. Grandma used to babysit for me and I was especially afraid of her! Uncle Nonny used to let me in the trapdoor in the kids room to hide out. He'd pull out the box full of comics and for a little while I'd be in a world of super heros. I think that I have him to thank for my love of reading.

I'll always remember him as another "hero".

My dear godfather, Uncle Nonny, I am so glad we got to see you in Florida and you, Aunt Joan and Katie stayed at my home. My most vivid memory of you is spending time at the beach and specifically you trying to teach me how to swim by dropping me in Lake Michigan and telling me I could swim and so i did.....eventually, all the way to Florida. You will always have a warm place in my heart.

Hi Uncle Nonny,

Boy has it been a long time since I've seen or talked to you. I'm sorry our families couldn't have all been alot closer. The sofakos men are all something to behold and remember. I only have fond memories of you and my cousins. They are the only childhood memories I can recall with a loving smile. Give my brother Bill my love and a big hug will ya.

My love to all of our family and our extended family everywhere.

Dad, You are gone and it is hard for me to believe. I cry every night thinking about what I should have said and done while you were still with me. I know in my heart you knew that I loved you, even though I can't remember telling you. You were and always will be my father. I love you now and forever and I will see you in heaven. Please look out for me and help guide me through life. Your loving daughter, Sandie

Bill, when I met you, you got me started in carpentry and painting. I learned alot about you and your heart of gold...you taught me so much. I then went out and got to teach others what you taught me about painting. I am definitely going to miss you calling out my name and banging on my window asking if I had any new movies "If no movies, no bagels." You were always there when I needed something. My prayers go out to you my dear friend. Also to Joan, Katie, Steve, Sandra, and Scottie.

To the family, you may have lost a husband, a father, a friend, but don't worry...Heaven gained an angle and a handyman. I'm sure he's watching over all of you with a smile on his face and love in his heart for all. Stay strong, God Bless You Bill and your loving family, we'll see you again my friend.

Love,

Albert & Patti Cardoza

When I married Mary, I was only 18 and Sonny was 13. He was like a kid brother to me and we grew up together. I taught Bill mechanics and he taught me carpentry. He was all for family, always inviting us to picnics and such. Bill had a heart of gold and I'll miss him. Now Mary and Bill are together again and I bet he's teasing her and calling her "P" like always.

When I think of Uncle Sonny, all I can do is smile. I have so many memories, it's hard to single out one. Some of my best childhood memories were made with him and Joan. Thank you. I miss you.

All my love and prayers - Joan, Katie, Steve, Sandra and Scottie.

Uncle Nonny, that cool 70's dude...

They called him Sonny Boy. I couldn't say Sonny, so I called him Uncle Nonny. He was my big strong uncle that lifted weights in the back yard. He was handsome and sexy. All my little girlfriends became giggly when he was around. My girlfriends big sisters melted around him.

He was my uncle and he was fun. He lifted me up to chin myself on his bar. He threw me up in the air and I always trusted him to catch me.

One day, when I was grown up, I introduced him to my friend, Joan. They were both such fun people, that I thought they would hit it off. They did! It was one of he best things I ever did, making my uncle and my friend happy. They were together 23 years and then there's Katie...She is a gift. I see my uncle in her eyes.

My strongest memory of Uncle Sonny was how he used to bring his son, Scotty, and I animals for our Noah's Ark collection. He used to pinch my cheek, give me an animal and then a popsicle. Scotty and I spent many hours playing with those collections. Thank you Uncle Sonny.

God speed you on a safe journey, Uncle Sonny!

When my brother Bill was first brought home from the hospital, my parents had not chosen a name for him as of yet. I remember all of us crowded around asking our Mother what we should call them. We agreed to call him Sonny Boy until a name was chosen. He was named after our Father, William, but the name Sonny stuck and he was known by family by that name for a long time. My baby brother was an active, energetic man and he will be greatly missed. The last time I saw him was jitterbugging with his wife at our nephews wedding. Bless you Sonny! We miss you!
