USMC, cherished brother of Paul (Kay), Dan (Mary Alice) Houlihan, Brian Houlihan, Mary Catherine (John) McCloskey, Mike (Mary) Houlihan and the late John (Vicky) Houlihan, favorite uncle of Margaret (Jim) Smith, Kathleen, Marty (Jo Ann) and Nora Houlihan, Bridget (Michael) Kennedy, Molly (Peter) McDermott, William, Padraic, Jonathan and Kerry Houlihan, William McCloskey, Kim (David) Rooney, and Lynn (Ryan) Harrington, kind great-uncle of ten. Visitation Thursday, 3 to 9 p.m., at Donnellan Funeral Home, 10525 S. Western Ave., Chicago. Lying-in-state Friday, 11 a.m., at Christ the King Church, 9235 S. Hamilton, Chicago, until Mass of the Resurrection 11:30 a.m. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Margaret of Scotland Church, 9837 S. Bill was my hero. Wild, left handed, funny,smoking Malboros and just being Bill...the modern day Doc Holiday. I was 19 when we met and we remained friends for more than 20 years. I will always remember him

"Uncle Bully" was our loveable nickname for Billy because we all knew his bark was bigger than his bite. He loved books, films, politics and "getting the skinny" on what was happening in our lives. He made me feel like I was his friend, as well as his daughter.
He gave a huge fight against cancer and he will be greatly missed.

I'LL MISS YOU HOULIE. I LIKE TO REMEMBER THE NIGHT WHEN I HAD TO CRAWL THROUGH THE BEDROOM WINDOW AT 3AM AND NEEDED HELP. MY LATE BROTHER JIM(WAXY) WAS SLEEPING BUT I COULD REACH HIS BED AND WOKE HIM. HE SAID, "IS THAT YOU HOULIHAN?" HE'S WAITING FOR YOU BILL.

I always loved our special lunches with my sisters and Uncle Billy! I think he loved them because he liked being seen having lunch with 5 young ladies!!! We always had a lot of laughs and shared all the gossip at those lunches!
UB, you were a special uncle to me and I was honored to be your goddaughter.
