Bill, I did not know until recently, that you were
instrumental in my gaining employment at Rand McNally in 1960. I thank you for that and your WWII service to our great country. Cliff Alsager

I had the pleasure of getting to know Bill toward the end of his life, while working at The Chicago Lighthouse for People Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired. Bill made quite an impact at The Lighthouse during his lifetime, helping people who are blind. He was well respected and known to be a fair man. I feel privileged to have known him. My thoughts and prayers go out to Rita and the entire Bold family.

I extend to the family of William Bold my thoughts and prayers. Life on Forest Ave in Hammond was always special for all in the neighborhood. I remember delivery the paper to the house and seeing the family in church at St. Joe's. I have to think that your fond memories of your husband and father will serve you well in the days ahead.

I first met Mr. Bold on my first day of work at Rand McNally in 1967. He immediately earned my respect and in just a few years I learned to love this man who taught me so much about life, caring for my fellow workers and respecting everyone for who they are.
Our many travels to other Rand McNally
facilities just increased my respect for this man. He will always remain Mr. Bold to me.

For many years at Rand McNally, it was a great privilege and honor to work for and with Bill Bold. One always knew how and where his attention was directed and the concentration on business first was highly respected by all of us.

But, business alone was not Bill's only life. He had a wonderful family and his devotion to Rita and his children could never be mistaken. In the best and difficult times, he could always be found to focus on life's most important meaning.

While we have not had the good fortune to know Bill in recent years we cannot forget his strengths in family and in the world at large. We extend our sympathy to his family and our salutations to Bill for all he gave of himself.

The world has lost a symbol of what it is to be a man. He took care of business, took care of his family, loved his wife, and was a trusted employee of a great company, offering advice when asked, for years, even after retirement. Generations will come and go, values change, but his never did. This man didn't spread his net too far out blindly, but made sure it was far enough to help many many people. His economy of words were balanced by his wealth of charitable acts. He did his job well, and passed on, ready. Luck had nothing to do with it, it was hard work, and I salute you, Bill, a very kind friend of mine, who's smile and bright blue eyes will be missed, I love you and Rita very much.
