Vincent La Porta Obituary

La Porta,Vincent Age 91, passed away June 6, 2013. Vince was born to Tony and Anna La Porta, the second of four children. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mary La Porta; his son, Michael and his siblings, Mary, Jim and Anthony. Loving father of Mary Ann (John) Herlihy and John (Jean) La Porta; cherished grandfather of Shannon Herlihy, Jennifer (Jake) Herlihy-Halas, Christopher and Nicole La Porta; dear great-poppa of Hunter, Jax and Dawson Halas and dearest uncle of numerous nieces and nephews. During WWII he proudly served in the Army Air Corps as a radar reconnaissance operator aboard a B-29 bomber. He met his wife while working at the Zenith Radio Corporation. In 1951 they moved to California, first settling in Bakersfield, then in Southern California. In 1957 Lockheed transferred him from Van Nuys to Sunnyvale. He was a Lockheed employee for over 30 years. In retirement he volunteered his time and expertise with the City of Cupertino and was one of the founding members of the CARES (Cupertino Amateur Radio Emergency Service) group. He faithfully served his parish as a member of the Holy Name Society, a Bingo volunteer, a Sunday usher and a founding member of the Knights of Columbus Cupertino branch. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph of Cupertino School. Friends are invited to attend a Visitation at 6pm on Friday evening, June 14, 2013 followed by a Vigil Service at 7pm at LIMA & CAMPAGNA SUNNYVALE MORTUARY, 1315 Hollenbeck Ave., Sunnyvale. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph of Cupertino Church, 10110 N. De Anza Blvd., Cupertino, 11:30am Saturday, June 15, 2013 followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery and a luncheon at the St. Joseph's Parish Hall.
