It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Kathleen Margaret Dominica Mooney, 76, on January 26, 2026, at her home where she resided as a lifelong Chicagoan. Cherished partner to David Slover; loving mother to Harmony Hermann (Steven McCanless); proud grandmother to Lilian (Alana), Leah, Margaret, Jude, and Luke McCanless; dear sister to Margaret, Patrick, and Dymphna Mooney; preceded in death by her parents James and Elizabeth Mooney (née Walenda), and her late brothers John and James. During her remarkable life, Mooney deeply cared about children and fostered their growth and education. She was the first single woman to get a license for a home day care in IL and ran it famously for nearly two decades on the west side of Chicago. She nurtured the arts, especially music and writing, and pursued them both. Mooney loved and collected books, and had briefly been a librarian. She was an avid seamstress and gardener who enjoyed cooking and sharing her skills with others. She believed in shaking up the status quo if it brought needed change. Mooney was a devoted friend that brought light to the lives of scores of people who loved and will miss her. Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life together for a memorial service on April 11, 2026, at 11 a.m. at St. Linus Church 10300 S. Lawler Ave., Oak Lawn IL 60453. Reception to be held at the Givins Beverly Castle, 10244 South Longwood Drive, Chicago, IL 60643.
