Vernon Spence Obituary

December 14, 1920 - September 5, 2011

In loving memory of our much beloved Dad and Grandpa.

Your needs in life were simple and your love for your family true.
As long as we were happy, you were happy too!
You taught us all so much and who we are today is all because of you!
Our hearts ache with sadness, our tears still flow for what it meant to lose you, no one will ever know.

Dad is survived by his wife, Reta of Salem. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bertha, our mom, in 1975, and son Gary, in 1993. He is survived by 3 sons, 2 daughters, 1 daughter-in-law and their families: Ron and Pat Spence, Teresa Ryser and Curtis Spence of Salem; Terry and Sue Spence, Lisa Smith of Eugene, and Shari Fox of Seattle, WA; Greg and Denise Spence, Jennifer Spence and Amy Clack of Salem; Carole and Phil Blomquist, Jim, Michael and David of Cottage Grove; Vicki and Mark Wiederhold, Laura Horton of Eugene, and Kristi Adams of Montana; Ellen Spence of Hawaii, Gary of Creswell, and Renee Hansen of Eugene. Dad also had 27 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

In tears, I sat by your bed, day and night, my mind filled with memories! As I watched you fade away, you fought so hard to stay. You faced your final journey with courage and dignity. You were surrounded by love as you took your final breath.

Dad, you will always be my hero.

With all my love, Vicki
