Vera Doss Obituary

Doss. Vera Lee 67, of Chicago, passed away August 14, 2007, in University of Chicago hospital. She was born March 24, 1940, in Greenville, Mississippi. Vera is survived by her husband, Emmett Doss whom she married on August 25, 1962, 2 daughters, LaShawn Doss and Rivanda Beal, 3 grandchildren, Christian Williams, Michael Beal and Jaylin Beal, a brother, Steve Cauthens, and a sister, Betty Cauthens. Although a devoted wife, mother and grandmother she found time to work outside the home holding a variety of positions with the U.S. Post Office, and Food Basket Grocery on the South East side of Chicago. She was a member of New Progressive Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago where she taught Sunday school and was President of the Women's Missionary. Vera was a woman with many interests; she loved flowers and could be found in her front yard planting and caring for her variety of colorful blooms. She was also an avid bowler and was known for her affinity to wearing stylish hats. Vera will be remembered for her generosity of spirit fierce commitment to her family and friends as well as her love of traveling, shopping and paying close attention to her grandchildren. Viewing will take place on Sunday, August 19, 2007 from 5 p.m. 9 p.m., at Precious Memories Funeral Home, 7605 S. Halsted Street, Chicago, IL, 60620; 773-487-5000 or 5011. A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, August 20, 2007 at New Progressive Baptist Church, 9406 S. Perry Avenue, Chicago, IL, 60620. Wake: 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Funeral: 11 a.m. 12 p.m. Interment will follow at Mount Glenwood Cemetery, Glenwood, IL.
