It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved father, Jesus (Jake) G. Vega M.D. on January 29, 2026. He left us surrounded by family at the age of 95. He was preceded in death by beloved and young wife Marie, son John, and daughter Jessica. He is survived by his adoring children Charles (Cathy) Judy, Cathy, Paul, Coye, David, Jennifer (Pat), and Joseph (Rosemary). He leaves his loving legacy to his grandchildren Marie, Rachel, Alex, Daphne, Violet, Cora, Carter, Audrey, and Emilia. He is also survived by his brother Ramon in the Philippines. He will be greatly missed by Joan, who was his constant companion and thread in life, the wind behind his back following the death of his young wife.

After finishing Medical school at the University of St. Tomas in Manila, Philippines, he pursued further studies in the U.S.A. He finished his residency at Grant Hospital in Chicago with supplemental training in Pathology at Northwestern Medical School. He eventually served as one of the Pathologists at Grant Hospital, then Pathologist In-Chief, and President of the Medical Staff, when the hospital celebrated its Centennial. In his semi-retirement he worked as Locum Tenens at Bethany and Ravenswood Community Hospitals. While planning a full retirement, he found himself assisting in the reorganization of the Department of Pathology at University of Illinois Medical Center, which he could not refuse. He worked continuously for another 14 years as Assistant Professor in the department, where he eventually went into full retirement.

As an avid gardener he immersed himself in improving his "Edenic" small beautiful garden, working for hours, dazzling and lavishing the spring flowers and blooming roses fluttering in the breeze. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Edward School 4343 W. Sunnyside Ave. Chicago, IL 60630 would be much appreciated.
