Velma Blume Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Velma I. Blume, 84, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2002. A native of Manteo, N.C., she had been a Peninsula resident since 1949. She was a member of Parkview Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and served as WMU president. She is survived by her husband, Joseph C. Blume; two sons, Joseph C. Blume Jr. of Newport News and Don H. Blume of Vermont; her brother, Roswell A. Sanderlin of Hayes; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 25, at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. on Sunday at Parkview Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Lawrence J. Biermann, Rev. Stan Putney and Dr. R. Furman Kenney. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
