This message was written by Tom Doherty on July 25, 2001, to be read at his funeral.
"Hi everyone. Thanks for coming, but most of all, thanks for opening up your hearts to me and letting me be your friend.
First of all, I have no regrets. I have been married to the most wonderful, beautiful, and caring woman for the past 41 years. I have seen 5 beautiful children grow into 5 mature, responsible adults. I see 7 grandchildren being raised by loving and caring parents. Sometimes I wonder how I ever got so lucky. And I know that someday we will all be reunitied in a better place.
So take care and thanks for letting me be your friend.
Tom

To all of the friends of our family, we want you to all know how much you have meant to my dad and to us. The overwhelming amount of love and kindness that we have witnessed over the last few weeks has been an amazing reminder of how blessed we are and has brought a lot of joy out of what would seem to be such a time of sadness.
Thank You!

To Mrs Doherty, Kevin, Karyn, Colleen, Keith, Craig: My deepest condolences for the loss of Mr. Thomas Doherty . All of you were great neighbors and friends, And my apologies for not being able to attend the memorial services< i hope you can forgive my absence. I can still remember living next door to all of you as if it were yesterday, and now here it is over two decades later and I'm told everybody looks so different. I can still remember Mr. Doherty driving us to school in the station wagon in the middle of one of our famous Chicago winters. All the way in the back was the best seat. Anyways, my best to all of you I hope to meet your spouses and children soon.Hard to believe were the adults now. And if you get this message, it means I've sucessfully e-mailed this letter. I'm still computer illiterate, right now someone is standing nearby telling me what to do, now that I've surrendered and decided to learn about computers. Robert Corrigan
