Brent, T. David

T. David Brent, Ph.D. University of Chicago, 1977, died August 18, 76 years of age. He leaves behind his widow Jataun Martin and two sons, Robert and Matthew, from his first wife, Margaret O'Dell. The eldest son of Stuart Brent, a noted bookseller in Chicago, and Jeanette Levin Brent, a gifted pianist, who died when David was 7. David was a brilliant Executive Editor of The University of Chicago Press for over 40 years where he published many acclaimed books in anthropology, philosophy, and psychology. The brother of Jonathan, Susan, Amy, Lisa, Joseph, Adam and Joshua. David will be missed and remembered for his energy, brilliance and the wild force of his life. Graveside service August 21, 2025, 12:30 PM at Zion Gardens Cemetery, 3600 N. Narragansett Ave., Chicago. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The BRICK, 420 Ellis Avenue, Ashland, WI 54806, www.thebrickcares.org. I am sorry I was unable to be at the graveside to say my final farewell to my friend and colleague. His guidance and encouragement meant a lot me and a Iearned much from him about both careful reading and concise and clear writing. May his memory be for a blessing.
