Susanne Glink Obituary

Glink, Susanne Rae Kraus

Susanne Rae Kraus Glink, 86, died Monday, December 4th surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Ronald Morton Glink and the late Dr. Leon I. Goldberg; loving mother and mother-in-law of Ilyce Glink Tamkin and Sam Tamkin, Shona Glink Kitei and Jon Kitei, and Phyllis Glink Harris and Ian Harris; adored grandmother to Alex and Michael Tamkin, Ronit, Marlee and Perri Kitei, and Roxanna and Amelia Harris; treasured aunt to Steve and Marcy Glink, Marty and Gail Glink, Larry Kraus, and Robert Kraus and Larissa Heyman; and an important and loving friend, confidante and mentor to many.

Born on Chicago's South Shore, Susanne received her B.A. and Master's degrees from Northwestern University. She started out as an art teacher in the Chicago Public Schools before staying home to raise her family, paint, and teach cooking classes. After her first husband died suddenly, in 1982, she embraced a new career in real estate, first for Richard Kaplan & Associates, then Coldwell Banker and finally Baird & Warner. Over three decades, she built close, personal relationships with her clients, helping hundreds of people buy and sell their homes. Her ability to connect with many different types of people, from all over the world, helped her thrive. She finally retired at the age of 81.

Susanne was an artist who became close friends with, and shared studio space, with Ed Paschke, the Chicago artist, and others. She loved the arts and culture in all forms, and relished symphony, opera, and theater, which she shared with her friends and family. Her grandchildren knew her as the "movie grandma," because she took them to see any and every movie they had on their list.

But she was also the "travel grandma." Susanne traveled the world, visiting more than 60 countries with her late husband, Leon, her friends, and her children and grandchildren, and led her family on many multi-generational family trips around the world. Even at the end, she wanted to get on a plane and go somewhere. She believed travel opened hearts and minds, enriching life.

In so many ways, and for her family and friends, Susanne was a guiding light, someone strong enough to take on the best and worst life had to offer and use it to make others' lives better. She will be dearly missed by all.

The funeral service will take place on Friday, December 8, 2023, at 10:30 AM Central Daylight Time at Anshe Emet Synagogue, 3751 North Broadway, Chicago, IL 60613. Sue was a wonderful real estate broker. I learned much from sue. She was a pro. She took her clients under her wings and treated them like her own children. She was so proud of Elyse and Sam. She was adored by all of us in the real estate biz.
RIP dear Susanne. You were one of a kind !

We worked together for many years. She was a wonderful and fun person who loved what she did. Her entertaining was wonderful. I was lucky to be invited now and then. She's now cooking up there and smiling on what a wonderful life she had and what memories she made for her family Dianne Welchko
