My condolences to Barb and the Katz family . Enjoyed working with Steve in early Illinois school district labor conflicts. He was enjoyable to work with and had a great sense of humor. Now as to his support of the packers vs MN Vikings? RIP Steve and cheers to a life well lived.

I share in Barb, Nate and Lily's loss. I have loved Steve, too. He was on my side through a 5-year stretch of trying to get justice after a school district fired me in 1981. He fought for me at a time I felt alone, and I knew he would always be on my side. In the years since then I have hooked up with him and his family many times when I traveled through northern Illinois. Sally and I thought enough of him to have him serve as our best man when we married in 1990. My memory of him will always be as that of a great friend and a great man.

I will always remember Steve for his great wit, brilliant mind, and love of family. During my time with RPS 205, Steve was always a breath of fresh air. He was the only lawyer I worked with that always put students first rather than the politics of board members.

Steve and I go back to the old neighborhood in Marinette. I always enjoyed spending time together. I would tease about him being excitable. Passionate, he could be. He will be missed. My heartfelt condolences to Steve’s family.

May Stephen's memory be for many blessings. I have many wonderful memories of our family trips to Marinette , including one to Stevie's bar mitzvah in 1962 . ( I was 10 years old )
More recently , Stephen had my wife Sandy and I over for Sunday brunch when we were in Chicago for the Chicago Jewish festival (that was about 10 years ago ).
We watched 8mm movies of his bar mitzvah. My mother Florence was born in Marinette( in 1921) , as was most of the Lapp and Katz cousins. The memories Marinette and all the Katz's will always hold a warm place in my heart.

I always appreciated working through problems for our respective clients with Steve. He was smart, hardworking but most importantly he had class. He knew how to disagree without being disagreeable. Although I must say that more often then not we analyzed the situation similarly. He will be missed. To his family, please accept my condolences.

Steve was not just our lawyer. He was a true friend. You could count on Steve to give 100% to anything he did. We had a shared passion for the Packers. I have many great memories of conversations about them as well as trips to Lambeau Field for the games leading up to the New Orleans Super Bowl. Steve was a wonderful man with a sharp wit and a big heart.

We are so sorry to hear of Steve´s passing. We are thinking of you all and sending our love.
Steve "Stevie" and "Howie" were very much apart of my growing up years in Marinette. Our Dad´s were cousins and we enjoyed knowing we were Katzelas too!. Steve and I kept in close touch via FB and often shared our Marinette memories and photos of our parents and grandparents with such delight. I will remember Steve with much admiration and love. May your memories of Steve bring you comfort and may you smile -as you remember with love. May his memory be a blessing.
Our love, Robbie and Marty Deutschman

So sorry for your loss. A good lawyer and great friend who was so proud of his son and daughter. Our daily rides to the train station included many hilarious stories about growing up Jewish in Marinette. A great sense of humor and a roaring laugh. I miss his emails already. May you find some peace knowing that the three of you gave his life all of the meaning he ever wanted.

To Barb, Lily, Nate & Karen, Howard & Amy & Family - Please accept our heartfelt condolences on Steve's untimely death. Rick & I met him at UW Madison in 1968 & have stayed friends all these years. As a friend, he was loyal & caring. His joie de vivre was contagious. As a brilliant lawyer, we know he represented his clients with skill & understanding whether he was at the NLRB, the Air Line Pilots Association, UIC or in private practice. He cared about & was curious about so many things, but what Steve treasured most was his family - he was so proud of his children & was thrilled to see Nate & Karen marry. Lily's return to Chicago meant so much to him, he told us. He kept us posted on how & what the children were doing, the joy radiating through the emails he sent to us here in France. He was fortunate to have such a loving family by his side during good and bad times. We hope that the best memories you have of him help sustain you in your loss. Again, our sympathy.

Our sincere condolences to the Steven Katz family. I knew Steven in Marinette as we share the same roots. Our fathers were first cousins. Barbara, we´re sorry for your loss at such a young age.
