Shirley Koloseike Obituary

Koloseike, Shirley of Naperville, 69, died peacefully in her sleep on December 30, 2004, surrounded by her family while vacationing in Hawaii. Beloved wife of William, she is also survived by sons, Mark (Jean) Koloseike of Tempe, Arizona; William (Janet) Koloseike of Naperville; daughters Judith (John Spellman) of Winfield; and Nina of Batavia; sister Lillian Cronin of Chicago; and ten grandchildren. Whether working with her husband Bill and her children to build a successful automotive dealer group (The Bill Kay Automotive Group) or volunteering at area hospitals, her dedication brought her the respect and love of many. Born January 18, 1935 to John and Lillian McInerny in Chicago, she attended Sacred Heart High School and St. Xavier College in Chicago, before training for nursing at Mercy Hospital. While there, she met William Joseph Koloseike. The two were married in 1955. While Shirley decided to give up nursing to raise her young children as a homemaker, she was the strongest supporter of her husband Bill in his desire to own a local car dealership in Chicago. The family moved to Naperville and began opening dealerships in DuPage County, operating today under the Bill Kay name. A two-time lung cancer survivor, Shirley was actively involved in many endeavors, volunteering at Edwards Hospital and Little Company of Mary Hospital. She and her husband were active supporters of Leo High School on Chicago's south side, as well as Loyola University. A member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Naperville, she was also involved with Naperville Bible Study. She also belonged to the Naperville Country Club and Lost Dunes Country Club. Memorial service and wake Wednesday, 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 1450 Green Trails Drive, Naperville. Funeral Thursday at 10 a.m., also at church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.

Dear Bill & Family, " Man is indebted first to God and then to woman not only for life, but for making it worth living " In my searching for words, these continued to surface. Shirley's affect on me has, and will remain to be very profound! One can only imagine the effects on a family member, but her life touched virtually everone fortunate enough to have contact with her. Both Morgen and I are devastated, deeply saddened, and send our prayers. With Love, Chuck

Dear Mrs. K,

Little did I know on that August day when our lives crossed that our relationship would grow into a 21-year friendship. You trusted me to make things better, to do it right, and be creative when sometimes it seemed impossible. Your smile, your laughter, your wisdom meant so much to me and to all of those around you. We had lots of fun for which I will always be grateful. Thank you for all those memories and may God bless your family. Hope our paths cross again.

Your friend,

Dave Shaw

To Bill and Mark and the rest of the Koloseike family. I worked for Mr. Kay and Mark at the Tempe store as Office Manager for several years. I am very sorry for your loss. I know it must be very hard and that there isn't anything anyone can say to make it any easier. You are definitely in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Bill, Mark, Billy, Judy, and Nina, I have such fond memories of all of you from your days in Oak Lawn. I was very sorry to hear of Shirley's passing. She was always a kind friend and neighbor to the Knapps. The article in the Tribune was a beautiful tribute to her. I am sorry for your loss, and you are in my thoughts and prayers. I'm glad I had the chance to know your family. Sincerely, Regina Knapp

Prior to Mrs. "Kay's" passing, my husband and I reflected on Mr. and Mrs. "Kay's" Christmas Cards. We always enjoy receiving them because they seem to be picked with a purpose. Mr. "Kay" confirmed that Shirley always picked the Christmas Cards. These cards are always beautiful; the main characters are always Mary and the Baby Jesus. One card was a tapestry that I had matted and framed. The others are in my scrapbooks. This year I was going to write a letter to Mr. and Mrs. Kay expressing the joy our family feels when we receive their card. I received the news that Mrs. "Kay" is no longer with us that week at work. The letter never really came out of draft.

This is a wonderful memory of a woman that I never had a chance to know. She always had a moment to smile and say HI at company picnics.

God Bless the Koloseike family and their deep loss.

I MET MRS. KAY ALMOST 7 YEARS AGO, WHEN I STARTED TO WORK FOR HER DAUGHTER, AT ONE THE DEALERSHIPS. BOTH MR. AND MRS. KAY WOULD VISIT OFTEN, AND ALWAYS WOULD STOP WHILE THEY WERE TO SAY HELLO AND CHAT. MRS. KAY WOULD ALWAYS HAVE A SMILE ON HER FACE THAT WOULD LIGHT UP THE ROOM. SHE WILL BE TRUELY MISSED BY ALL.
