Mrs Hoffenberg, We are so sorry to hear about your husband. We remember how you talked at parents night about how your husband would help you with 21st Century Skills. It was clear that he was a good man. Take comfort in knowing that the community is thinking of you.

Dear Mrs. Hoffenberg, Rick, and all in the Hoffenberg family,
Please excuse the lateness of this message. I just returned from the Dolomites and was shocked to find the Marywood email regarding Mr. Hoffenberg's death. Please accept my deepest condolences. It was always such a pleasure to speak with him at MW concerts and see him beaming with pride! I'm sure he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you all now and in the months to come.
With sincere sympathy,

To Dr. Rick and the Hoffenberg Family,
I just watched the wonderful link from the ABC 7 News in Chicago expressing how wonderful Mr. Hoffenberg was and passionate about his work. Though we never formally met, it was awesome to see him whenever we had a concert. I am sorry for your loss Dr. Rick and family. Please accept my sympathies and my thoughts/prayers are with you at this difficult time.
Sincerely,
Leann Ostrow, Marywood student 2013

Please accept my sympathy for your loss. Sheldon and I attended Senn High School and the University of Illinois at the same time. Our paths occasinally crossed later even after I left the Chicago area. He was an honest, upright fellow and the world is a bit sadder at this passing. Take care and hold his memory dear.

Dear Hoffenberg family,
My deepest sympathies to you. I sat next to Shelly every day at work for the last 12 years. He was a great writing/producing mentor to me and always found a way to make everyone smile.
When Shelly found out I was getting married he asked the cardinal to bless my wedding! He always asked about my family and kids.
But I wanted to let you know that not one day went by that he didn't grin ear to ear talking about all of you. He always looked forward to his vacations to visit his piano genius son or the plane building genius son! I use to tell him all the time how smart his children must be and he would laugh then say, they didn't get it from me, it's all from my wife! God bless you Shelly and family.

As a video editor I had the good fortune to work with Shelly for mor years then I care to remember before I retired in 2001 after 43 years with WLS-TV. When push came to shove on a breaking story you coulden't ask for a better person to be in the editing room with, he was fantastic and will be sorly missed.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Shelly's passing. Although we didn't have any recent contact I will always remember him as an outstanding journalist and a genuine nice person. We worked together at Lerner Newspapers and had many contacts during his years at ABC while I was working at the IRS. He will be missed

Darlene, Rob,Rick,Diane and Vern,
My heartfelt condolences go out to you and to all who knew Shelly. He was always a unique person who loved his work and the people who he met along life's path..myself included.
We go back to his Lerner days and he was always friendly, fair and helpful.
Once I heard of his most recent illness I truly enjoyed the hours we spent on the phone just telling old stories and new ones and solving the world's problems. Laughing together was a real treat. May you all find comfort in the wonderful years you spent together and in the great legacy he leaves you.
