Dearest Lietz Family, my deepest sympathies at the loss of your son, brother, husband, father. It has been many years since I spoke with Scott; however the years spent as a next door neighbor were never forgotten. My Heart goes out to Family and Friends, Scott will be missed!

August 30, 2009

Dear Aunt Jackie, Uncle Elmo, and entire Lietz,

Mark and I heard the sad news of Scott's passing and wish to extend our condolences to all of your wonderful family. We are unable to attend the service, but you will be in our thoughts and prayers. I hope this poem will bring you comfort as you go through this difficult time.

"God looked around his garden and he found an empty place.
He then looked down upon this earth and saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful; he always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering.
He knew you were in pain.
He knew that you would never get well on earth again.
He saw that the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb,
So he closed your weary eyelids and whispered “Peace Be Thine.”
It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn’t go alone.
For part of us went with you the day God called you home."

God Bless your entire family,
Mark and Kim Babe

I was lucky enough to have gained the friendship of Scott as he worked with my father at Truck 48. When Scott went to the house on Chicago & Lamon, he would often walk down the street to the 015th District Police Station, to shoot the breeze with me when I was assigned there as a sergeant. Scott was one of those, "what you see is what you get," kind of people. He was very genuine, helpful, funny, and an all around good friend. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed. It was my honor to have known him, and to have called him my friend.

The world has truly lost another one of its heroes with the passing of Scott Lietz. Few, if any, will answer the calling like Scott did, and don the uniform of the Chicago Fire Dept., to protect and help those in need. I consider it my honor to have known Scott, and will forever cherish the talks, the laughs, the memories, and the stories that we shared.

My heart goes out to Justine and her family. Know that you all are in my prayers, and that Scott will forever be in our hearts.

For many years the way to show respect for a man was to refer to him as a "stand up guy" or " 100 percent".
Today, the term is "the real deal".
Scott Lietz was the Real Deal.
Good cook, good Fireman, and a very good friend.
Having nearly almost lost him once makes losing him now that much more heartbreaking.
To Justine and his family my deepest condolences. May he rest in peace.

To the family of Scott Lietz:

We are thinking of you during your grief at the loss of a son, brother, husand, grandfather and Firefighter.

Scott was very much a part of our family many years ago. We cared for him deeply because he was a "a great guy" and a good baseball coach to my son.

Scott always wanted to be a firefighter and we are proud to have known him.

We express our deepest sympathy to all.
