Thanking all those kind people who wrote a word or two about our father whom it was a privilege to live with. Too bad we never met some of you, as it was raining that day.
He was courageous when circumstances required.
He was very honest & trustworthy. We always knew that he tried to keep his word, & modeled this, so that we never thought there was any other way to be.
He was not only kind to the animals he treated. He was kind to us as children. He was so happy working in his garden, growing tomatoes & lettuce to feed the family. He woke early Sundays so he could make pancakes for us. Everyone brought him their baby birds & although it would be hard to fix their injuries, he comforted each child as he held them trembling in their little hands.
Wishing more people were like him.
Thank you again & hoping you are all well.

I am so blessed to have been a Lincoln Park Zoo Guest Relations Volunteer with Sandy. I learned so much from him. What a bright spot it was on a Monday morning to visit him at his Gateway volunteer post. He shared with us as volunteers, as well as the public visiting the zoo, the knowledge he had gathered from his many life experiences and fun times. Sandy, you are so missed and never to be forgotten. Thanks for the gold dust you sprinkled into the lives of those whom met you. Ann

I was away and missed the notice of Dr. Blum's passing. My condolences to his family -- and it is a HUGE family -- of former patients and their pets over the years. I'm sure many didn't know that in retirement Dr. Blum continued his sweet and comforting ways by volunteering at Northwestern Hospital, where he could be seen on many days talking to patients, and encouraging them. What a sweet and generous man he was, to people and pets alike. His legacy lives on in the animal hospital he created, always voted the "best" in Chicago.

We had the pleasure of knowing Dr. Blum for the past 10 years as he was a guest of ours at Sea Club 1 of Longboat Key, Florida. Bill and I are the managers here at Sea Club and we considered Dr. Blum a Dear Friend. We looked forward to his visits twice a year and when he fell ill and couldn't make it anymore he was sadly missed. He was a gentle, kind man who we thought a lot of. I was thinking of him today when I actually researched and found out he had passed - we were sad to read about his passing but hold on to many memories. He was a big part of Sea Club. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I worked for Dr. Blum from 1965 to 1970, and those were good times for all. He was a hard working man and built a practice beyound compare. His kindness will be remembered.

I began taking my dog to Dr. Blum when I was 13 and by the time I was in my 20's was working there. Always a kind vet and good employer. May he rest now.

So very sorry to hear of Dr. Blum's passing. We went to Blum for many years. We haven't lived in Chicago for 26 years and I have yet to find a vet that I like as well. Deepest condolence to the family. May he R.I.P.

I met Dr. Blum when he first opened his Animal Hospital. I was a 14yr old HS Freshman. I brought him a dog injured in the street, a white terrier. After Dr. Blum's care we had her 18yrs! He has since then taken care of all our dogs for many years. We will always remember him as a man of honor and kindness.
