Stan and Ruth -

We are sorry for your loss. Your grandfather was obviously a man of substance and character.

The most appropriate tribute we can think of in a time like this is to quote from a Native American prayer that puts things in perspective. This prayer is still used today to comfort people in times of loss:

Do not stand by my grave and weep

I am not here. I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow

I am the diamonds’ glint on snow

I am the sunlight on ripen grain

I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning’s hush

I am the swift uplifting rush

Of quiet birds in circle flight

I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry.

I am not there.

I did not die.
