Ruth Coulson Obituary

Coulson, Ruth M. 94, of Waukegan died Thursday, September 12th. After graduating from Waukegan High School, Ruth worked as a librarian at the Carnegie Library in Waukegan for almost 40 years. She helped oversee the Library's move to its new building in the 1960's. Her brother, Robert Coulson was Mayor of Waukegan from 1949 to 1956 and then a longtime State Legislator, and Ruth was active in his political campaigns. She was a also a world-class philatelist, who by the 1950s had amassed a leading collection of stamps from Laos, Cambodia and Viet Nam. She was a past Chapter Regent of the Little Fort Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution and was active in the Waukegan Elks Club and with the St. Margaret's Guild at Christ Episcopal Church in Waukegan. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Rose Coulson of Waukegan, nephews and nieces, William and Elizabeth Coulson of Glenview, John and Linda Coulson of Diamond Bar, California and Barbara and Steven Kurtin of Sherman Oaks, California, great-nephews, Bobby and Tommy Coulson of Diamond Bar and great- nieces, Dana Kurtin of Brooklyn, New York and Sarah Kurtin of Los Angeles. Visitation is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at Peterson & Patch Funeral Home, 408 N. Sheridan Rd., Waukegan, with services at 1:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Christ Episcopal Church, 410 W. Grand, Waukegan, 60085 or the Waukegan Public Library, 128 N. County St., Waukegan, 60085. Visit Guest Book at www.suntimes.com
