Romuald Hejna Obituary
Hejna, Romuald Lucian A veteran of the Korean Conflict died on July 3, 2008 at the age of 77. Beloved son of the late Stefan Daniel and the late Lucy (nee Ehlert), preceded in death by his brothers and sister Elizabeth, Ralph and Daniel, fond cousin to Feliks and Tadeusz Hejna, Zofia Kaluzny of Klodawa Woj. Konin Poland, dear friend of the late Judy Baker, Richard Jakubowski, Joan (late George) Kosinski and Edmund Gronkiewicz. Member of the American Legion Board of Education Post, Polish Falcons of America Nest #1, Chicago Society, PNA, 1985 Retiree of the Board of Education after 30 years of service. Per Ron's request, Service at Resurrection Cemetery Chapel, 12 noon on Tuesday, July 8, 2008. Arrangements entrusted to the Walter J. Sojka Funeral Home, 1427 W. Chicago Ave., Chicago. 312-666-2673.

Mr.Hejna was my history teacher in 1960 and 63. It was in his class that we heard of President Kennedy's assasination. It was in his classes that I grew to love history and his method of teaching. I wish I would have thanked him years ago for helping making my life better. A teacher never to be forgotten.

Sorry to read of Romualds passing today. What a extremely generous endowment to the U of I Chicago to further Polish Studies. He will be sadly missed.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Romuald Hejna. He was a fun-loving, generous man whose generosity was inspiring. I only wish I could have shared a laugh with him one more time. He is loved and missed.

I thank you Romuald for putting me in touch with our relatives in Klodawa. Meeting them has given me a sense of "roots' in Poland. I fondly remember visiting with your family in Evergreen Park, and before that, on 18th and Damen. May you now rest in peace.

Thank you for keeping our "Polish" heritage alive in our family! I have many beautiful memories of you and your family as I was growing up in Chicago. We have been saddened by the news of Romualds death. We have considered him a friend through the Polish Falcons of America for many years. Both of us will miss his friendship and casual conversations. Romuald was a true Polish historian and culture scholar. We will miss these also. We hope that his soul will rest with God for all eternity.
