During the year since Rog's death, I have often thought of him and our times together. As his family undoubtedly has done with greater frequency.. Perhaps it is helpful to them to know that others do, too.

My name too is Roger Pascal. We communicated briefly many years ago via texts. Many coincidences. My ex wife was named DIANE, my middle name is Charles and my brother went to U of Michigan. My sincere condolences to his family on his passing

To my dear and longtime good friend Debby and her siblings Diane & Thomas and David & Amy and Mother, Missy and of course the entire family and grandchildren, please accept my condolences in the loss of Roger Pascal.
I had the pleasure of getting to know Roger through my friendship with Debby (daughter) and over the twenty plus years of knowing Deb, I came to know the family, and of course Roger. Roger Pascal was a very special person who seemed like a special part of my family and who made me feel so much a part of his. I enjoyed regularly spending holidays like Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July with Roger and the family, where I enjoyed his and Missy's hospitality and being made to feel part of his clan along with the other "regulars" who attended these holiday meals. I was privileged to enjoy his personally made espresso from his fancy Gaggia espresso maker, his freshly baked bread at these incredible meals which so spoiled me rotten for fresh, really good bread, that I can almost no longer eat any other bread after having his.
When I returned to law school and took the bar exam as an older adult working a very demanding full time job, he offered encouragement for which I will always be grateful. He was a special person and clearly a loving father, husband and devoted family man who cherished his wife, children, grandchildren and loved ones. I am grateful for having known him and spent time with him, especially these last few months.
To the Pascal family, even though you are hurting deeply now and the pain of this loss remains so fresh, know that things will get a little better and that you have plenty of people around you who love you and are here for you. Roger had a beautiful life. He advocated for the things in which he believed. He had a fabulous family who loved and continues to love him very much and people who cherished him as a professional, mentor and as a human being. He lived to enjoy his wife and raise three wonderful children who embody the values that he worked so hard to practice in his own life and to instill in them. He lived to see his grandchildren and they got to know him and have good forever memories of their Grandpa. Honoring those memories and Roger's memory will surely keep him alive in your hearts forever. What a great life. Well Done! So as you sorrow, family, also rejoice that he lived and lived well.

Remain Blessed and know you are loved and that I will continue to keep you in thought and prayer.
Your friend, Monica --

Rog and I were close friends during high school. Rog introduced me to modern jazz. We often went to the Gate of Horn on the Near North Side. It was a folk music spot except on Monday nights, when it was a meeting place for rising jazz musicians who sat in with each other improv-style. Rog and I were often there together, witnessing the beginning of careers that later became legendary.

Rog and I were also classmates at law school and occasional correspondents thereafter, even before email arrived on the scene. We visited each other when I was in Chicago or he was in San Francisco. Missy came from the same New York suburb as did Ellen, my first wife, and both of them were also at Michigan.

Although Rog and I never worked together on the same case, we had similar experiences. The Pepsico case he won, which spawned a doctrine in trade secret law known as "inevitable disclosure," created an odd coincidence. A while after Rog's victory in that case, I had the first case in California to consider that doctrine. I was on the opposite side of the issue than Rog had been and was able to persuade our court to reject Rog's theory. We chatted about it in his office a few years later, sharing a good laugh.

I did not know that he was suffering from cancer. I will try to reach Missy, but doubt that I will be able to fly out for the memorial service. My most heart-felt condolences to her and all of the Pascal family.

Roger was a great lawyer and a great guy. I litigated several cases where Roger represented a co- party. You could not ask for a better lawyer to work with, or to spend time with.
