Robyn Cohen Obituary

To the Reinstein & Cohen Families,

Robyn was my son Paul's speech therapist during a very difficult time in his life. She was very talented and helpful. More importantly, she was a warm and encouraging friend. We always looked forward to her weekly visits. We're deeply saddened by this tragedy. May you be blessed with peace. Our deepest condolances.

As you know, we have a profoundly deep love for y'all. The sorrow we feel is inexplicable and far reaching. Even with four weeks that have now passed - it seems surreal. In the past weeks everyone has been moved and encouraged to see your family come together with such love, support and strength. Seeing this brings hope and comfort to all. May peace find you in your quiet moments and may the love of your friends and family provide you strength from the inside out. I know you will carry Robyn with you always... and I know that I, like many others, will always smile at the thought of sweet Robyn - in her supportive, positive way - saying "Riight? Riiiiiiiight!"

My deepest sympathies are with you all at this time. I was saddened to hear about Robyn when speaking with a mutual friend today, and I am sorry I was unable to extent my sympathies sooner. Although it has been some time, I remember meeting Robyn and Josh in the summer of 1999, when we traveled to Israel. As many others have stated, I have only fond memories of the sweet person that I knew Robyn to be. Josh, my thoughts are with you and your daughters and the entire family.

Our daughter goes to Gan Sholom and my husband and I have been members of the temple for many years. We do not know your family personally, but I heard of your loss and cannot get it out of my mind. I cannot even imagine nor will I pretend that I know what all of you and the young babies must be going through. I have two girls similar in age and I can only think what a nightmare this must be. I am deeply sorry and I sincerely want to help in any way I can. Please contact me and let me know how I can help. I would be happy to watch your girls, bring them over for a playdate, bring you food (I don't think you want my cooking), help in a nanny search, whatever you need!! Even if it just helps to talk, I am happy to listen. I read so much about Robyn and she seemed like a wonderful person. I'm sorry I didn't have a chance to meet her. Please know many people are thinking of you and your family and want to help. Again, our thoughts and sympathies are with you.

Robyn was such a special friend to me over the past 12 years. From traveling around Europe with her after college to spending a summer with her in Seattle, I have always treasured our friendship. She was always a great listener, compassionate, and fun. In recent years, Adam and I have enjoyed our "double dates" -- eating Indian food and getting to know your expanding family. One of my favorite Robyn memories is watching her laugh and laugh during the "Joe Schmo" show. She clearly loved life and loved her family very dearly. She will be missed by all.

I attended Glenbrook North High School with Robyn, and remember a kind, sweet, gentle,wonderful girl. We used to study together, and believe me, I benefitted from these study sessions far more than Robyn probably did. We ran into eachother not to long ago and I was delighted to hear she had become a Speech Pathologist, as I did. I am proud to have known Robyn, and although we did not keep in touch, I am honored to have called her a friend. Please accept my deepest and most heartfelt condolences. Robyn was an excellent student in one of the classes that I assisted teaching (T.A.'d) at Northwestern University's Speech-Language Pathology Master's program. I thought so highly of her that I introduced her to my brother (before she met Josh). I will always remember her. My condolences to you.

I never met Robyn but by knowing Phil I'm sure she was a wonderful person as everybody has said. Phil was my lawyer on my first sale in real estate. He was so helpful and went beyond the call of duty to guide me through. I have heard that his whole family, (including Robyn) were kind and compassionate people. I can't even imagine your loss but hope with your caring family you'll be able to get through this horrific time.

I knew Robyn through her work with children at my school. She was wonderful with kids, positive and encouraging. She always seemed organized and skilled with fun ideas that the students responded well to and looked forward to. The first grade boy she worked with last year kept talking about the little room she worked in and how he wanted me to come watch which I happily did. Robyn was a wonderful teacher.

As you know, Robyn was my best friend for the last 20 years. There will never be a friendship in my life as strong as the one I shared with her. No matter where I was in the world, Robyn was close to my heart. The loss feels overwhelming although I know that Maya and Zoe will carry on some of Rob's best qualities. Robyn was an amazing confidante, always honest, warm, and encouraging. She has left me with endless memories to smile and laugh about and I will carry them with me forever.
