Robert Zimny Obituary
Age 83, of Lyons, IL, passed away Friday, January 8, 2021 at Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital.
Preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Patricia Zimny (Tillema), grandson TJ Doherty, parents Walter and Frances (Gresko) Zimny, brother Leroy Zimny and sister Shirley Kuras.
Survived by his three sons Brian (Alane) Zimny, Douglas (Patti) Zimny and Russell (Jennifer) Zimny, four grandchildren Heather Murphy, Kaitlynn Zimny, Ryan Zimny, and Carter Zimny, two great-grandchildren TJ Williams and Tyler Williams, brother Wayne (Marilyn) Zimny, niece Sheila (Ray) Mountford, nephew Richard (Marilyn) Kuras and many dear friends.
Born in Chicago, lived in Cicero, Lemont, Orland Park and Lockport before moving to Lyons. Employed as a teacher at Chicago Vocational High School for 4 years, South East Junior College for 4 year, Washburne Trade School for 9 years and Triton College for 4 years. Owned and operated Zimny Welding Services and Welders Unlimited. Was a certified welding inspector, employed with HRV Inspection. U.S. Army Veteran 82nd Combat Engineers, serving in the end of the Korean War and Berlin Wall. Member of D.A.V., Lockport Moose #1557 and life member of the American Welding Society. Commodore of the Southern Shore Yacht Club and Chicago Yachting Association. Graduated in 1955 from Morton High School, 1969 from Chicago State Teachers College and received his Masters Degree in Human Education from Governors State University in 1974.
Family will receive friends at Petkus Lemont Funeral Home, 12401 S. Archer Avenue,(at Derby Rd.), Lemont, IL 60439 on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 from 9:30 AM until time of service at 12:00. Interment Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Justice, IL. WEARING MASKS AND SOCIAL DISTANCING ARE MANDATORY FOR ALL IN ATTENDANCE.
