Bob is preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 31 years, Irene Weir and one granddaughter, Kaitlan Mansfield. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Bean of Sommersworth, NH; son, Robert J. Weir Jr. of Bakersfield; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Robert McDermott of Bakersfield; 3 grandsons, Robert Gifford of Sommersworth, NH; Robert J. Weir III and Christopher Brown both of Bakersfield; 2 granddaughters, Shelby Mansfield and Haley Adams both of Bakersfield. Bob was born June 10, 1927 in Lowell, MA and he passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his children on Monday, July 11, 2005. Bob was raised and educated in Lowell, MA until joining the Navy in 1944 and he served proudly until his retirement 22 years later. He then began a new career as a printer for Clay Electric in Keystone Heights, FL from which he retired after 18 years. He moved to Bakersfield to be near his children in 1997 and he spent 8 wonderful years here. Bob's greatest pleasures came from telling his many salty Navy stories or singing about them while playing his beloved ukulele. His family and many friends will miss Bob dearly. They will miss his hearty laugh, many jokes, his cooking as well as his compassion and love of life and people. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations to be made in his name to Optimal Hospice at 4800 Stockdale Hwy. #215 Bakersfield, CA 93309. Debbie, Bob & Family

It was a wonderful experience, getting to know your Dad. It was a lot of fun being around him, and we enjoyed the stories he told, but, most of all, we love the fact that our mutual grand children, got a chance to love and appreciate the wonderful, fun person that was Papa.

I am so pleased and proud to say that I have known a man who enjoyed life as much as he enjoyed story telling. He had a strong bond and love for his children and grandchildren. He was a talented cook and would take requests for a special pie if you promised to return his pie pan.(ha ha ha) He could use his words to flirt with you that would make you feel like a beauty queen when at the moment you felt and looked like you just got off a tracter after mowing the south forty. I will never forget you Bob. Your smile, your laugh and especially one of my favorite little expressions "OY OY"! I know you are at peace with our Lord and may you find many golden treasures while you walk the streets of Heaven. You will be missed and never forgotten. To Bobby and Debbie, I am so glad I was there during his last few moments, not only to have been there for you, but to have witnessed such a loving son and daughter by their father's side. Your dad loved you very much and you did everything for him with a tremendous amount of love and respect.
