Robert Curry Obituary
Robert James Curry, 83 of Winchester, Virginia, died Sunday, August 14, 2005 at home after a short battle with cancer.
Mr. Curry was born on March 15, 1922 in Providence, Rhode Island, the son of the late John W. and Elizabeth Weeks Curry. He was a United States Postal Service employee retiring in 1984 with thirty-five years of service. He resided in Lincoln, Rhode Island for forty-nine years prior to moving to South Attleboro, Massachusetts, where he resided for four years before finally settling in Winchester, Virginia in 2003.
Mr. Curry was the husband of Barbara (Ahearn-Gingras) Curry and the late Annette L. Curry.
Mr. Curry was a decorated Veteran of World War II and served in the Pacific Theatre. He was an active member of Redmond Chapter D.A.V., the Saylesville (Rhode Island) American Legion Post, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (Chapter 10, Pawtucket, R. I. and Chapter 180, Winchester, Virginia), and a former charter member of the Knights of Columbus in Lincoln, Rhode Island. He was an avid golfer for fifty years and was a member of the Lincoln (Rhode Island) Country Club. Mr. Curry was also an active volunteer at the Central Falls (Rhode Island) Senior Center, where he met his second wife, Barbara, who also volunteered at the center. The couple married on January 28, 1998 and eventually moved to Virginia to be closer to their family. After moving to Winchester, Virginia, Mr. Curry continued to actively participate in community and charitable events, including membership with the Winchester Virginia Chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.
Mr. Curry leaves four loving step-children, Susan Gingras Henebery and husband J. Kevin Henebery, Esq. of Fairfax, Virginia, Barbara Gingras Gubler and husband Dr. K. Dean Gubler of Portland, Oregon, Sandra Gingras Evans and husband Dr. Richard P. Evans of Columbia, Missouri and Stephen J. Gingras of Sterling, Virginia. He also leaves eleven step-grandchildren, Daniel John, Anne Marie, Margaret Mary, and Catherine Elizabeth Henebery all of Fairfax, Virginia, Jonathan and Matthew Gubler both of Portland, Oregon, and Nicholas, Jason, Alyssa, Zachary and David Evans all of Columbia, Missouri. He was the brother of the late George, William, John, Leo, Joseph, Rita and Anne Curry, and Elizabeth Tanner and Mary Lepine.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 130 Keeting Drive, Winchester, Virginia, on August, 25, 2005 at 10:00 AM with Father Stanley J. Krempa officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, in Cumberland, Rhode Island.
Pallbearers will be Members of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians.
The family will receive friends at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, one hour prior to the service from 9:00-10:00 AM.
